is an underdrive pulley worth all the work on the 2200's? I have been searching and it seems logical on the 2.4's but...
I now have an audio system and when I run my AC I lose alot of power.
Well if your conserned about charging with the underdrive pulleys and the system, I would either invest in a yellow top or get a beefy alt. with a higher output. I had my old system 2 infinity kappa perfects 12 in my car with aHifonics BDX 1000 amp at 750 watts rms at 2 ohms and my system hit hard and I didnt have any charging problems with my stock alt and Yellow top. I also have 1 set of neons and had another amp for my front speakers 75watts rms per channel at the time. Now i am in the process of getting another system but I didnot once have a problem with my battery charging. And if it really bothers you just get a lightweight stock sized pulley insted of the under driven ones.
higher output alternators usually idle at the same or similar levels as the reg ones do....
if you want a pulley, with similar effects and no worries, get the rsm one...
its a pound lighter and same size. cant go wrong.
Get an underdrive crankshaft pulley and an OVERdrive alt pulley
it a pretty easy install, if you get a cavalier connection pulley kit your going to need to cut one tread of a six grove belt, you don't need a pulley puller either.
screw underdrive just get rsm.
would the RSM pulley help with power loss when runing AC, stereo, and 12v acc?
no power loss from running ac, stereo, or 12v acc because rsm pulley is the same exact size crank pulley, but its lighter thus creating less drag and letting your engine rev faster. you dont have to trim belts or get a diff size belt or nothing. id deffinitly get that over an underdrive anyday.
review your physics about changing the pulley sizes
Get the underdrive pulley if you want, just invest in an capicitor for your stereo system. Your A/C will still run fine...that's no worry really.

question.....
lets say (theoretically) you go and get a pulley made for each thing on the car- crank, alt, a/c, tensioner, etc etc. but you make them all smaller, except the crank. the crank will still turn at normal speed, but wouldnt that kinda spin the others faster, and with a shorter belt? not sure if my question is coming out clearly, but would that theoretically be something to look into?

So flame all you guys wnat but mine is still running like a champ.
You're lucky man, my car has the same pulleys, and I have had it die on me and need a boost because it wasn't charging my car enough.

Your best option for an underdrive pulley is a lightweight crank pulley that of the stock size.

yes, you canget a lightened overdrive pulley for your alternator so it charges your battery better. Because the underdrive crankshaft slows the alternator pulley down. But this is only needed if you are running a massive stereo or other stuff.
ehhhh... from what i have seen running both lightened pulleys can cause problems.

if you get a bigger alt pulley it slows it down...
you'd have to get another smaller alternator pulley....
safest bet is the rsm plain and simple.... nothing changes charge wise, etc, and you get the benefits of it being lighter....
last i checked the underdrive pulleys made were within or over 1-2 ounces of the larger pulley made by rsm...
exactly. an OVERdrive pulley

yes an aftermarket alt pulley is technically an overdrive pulley to compensate for the smaller crank pulley. however, if you go with RSM's pulley which is same size as stock, only lighter, you don't necessarily need an "overdrive" pulley.

since not many make em, most make larger ones, you'd prob be set for finding the specs of the crank, to then find out what size the alternator needs.
the stock pulley is decently small as it is.....
and most people on this site are too lazy to sit down and do the equation to find out what size would be needed.
