ok here it is guys i havnt been around for a while , some know me some dont , well i havnt been around because my cavalier was hauled off by my parents for junk , anybody remember "ugliest car on j-body", .........because i spun a bearing and it ruined the crank shaft last oct . so now after blah blah blah i got the car back , and hasve the engine all torn down , and getting a new crank shaft tomorrow , but while i have the engine torn down < by the way im completely broke had to buy paint and the parts > is theyr any way i can eliminate my balance shafts for free, or xtremely cheap ,
while i have it torn down im gonna port my exhaust side and the manifold , and pretty the thing up a bit ,
was gonna change to standard tranny while i was in theyr but its too much like work and money right now <see my classifieds ad for tranny >
any ideas would be appreciated ..........

I was wondering if you can open the balance shaft case (I know you can), and actually take out the rotating mass in there. Leave the houseing together and mount it in the car, so you can use a 2.4 style oil pump. I have rebuilt a 2.4 before, but just to stock because it was a daily driver, not a toy. I know what the balanced shafts look like. I will be pulling another one apart soon, and want to see about doing this. I really do not want to take my chances on the 2.3 oil pump swap.

from what i rember, no ( its been 2 years) because you will have extra slack in the timing chain.

yeah john thats basically what im wondering , because my 2.4 is all apart right now ., new crank is in and bolted, exhaust ports are ported out , exh mani is ported ........tb is bored , glad noone answered me for a few days got me bored enough to do some other work .............lol
but tae ??? slack in the timing chain or the oil pump chain ?
im thinking bout buying a pump from a salvage yard and just trying to cut the thing up until i break somthing and it works right , <some of the best fixes come from the end out a hammer lol>, we'll see though

The timing chain does not play a part in the balance shafts. There is a oil pump chain, but I think I remember that could still be hooked up. It just will not be turning anyhting inside.

i wonder if the balance shaft could be taken out too!!!!!!

listening. though i have an Ecotec haha

First yes they can be taking out completely, but you have to swap to a 2.3 oiling system. This requires drilling new oil holes in the block etc...
I'm talking about modding the balance shafts and keeping the houseing in the motor.

GM sells a balance shaft delete kit for the ecotec.

I have ideas, but until I tear my turbo motor apart, and can't explore them more.

they cant just be removed. however if they do come out of the housing i would think you would be able to have them remachined to be much lighter. but im not sure.

Actually yes they can be removed. Like I said before you have to switch to a 2.3 oiling system.

i meant besides the 2.3 pump swap they cant be removed.
