Random CEL
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 10:14 PM
Last week i was driving and my cel came on. I was near an Advance Auto Parts so i got it scaned. It said that it was a random misfire. I didnt feel any difference in performance though. The next day it went off. Then a couple days later the cel came back on. Its been about a day and it hasnt gone off. Does anyone have any clue why it would do this? I know it cant be my cams, its a mild grind plus ive had them in since march with no cel. Actually, i dont think I've done any performance upgrades since April.

Could fuel be an issue? I havent done any fuel tuning yet because i've been busy this summer. Also i have a rough idle. My trac off light pops on if i idle for like 2 minutes. Could that cause a random misfire? If anyone has any ideas, please post.

change out your plugs and run some Seafoam through your gas tank.

I dont think i need seafoam since i only have 22000 miles. I will change my spark plugs though and see if it makes a difference. BTW the cel went away this morning.

looking at your mods ill bet it has something to do with the cams in combonation with the under drive pulley, head, header, exhaust, etc. just seems wierd why your ECU is just now acting up if it hasnt this whole time. i personally wouldnt change the plugs but i would pull them out and check them out.

I run Sea foam through with every oil change. Gotta love a clean engine. I only have 15k miles, but i make sure the bish is clean inside. At 15k i had to change plugs because they were fouled out. Check em.

I don't need no stinking SIG. Wait this is one.
DOH!

Check your IAT sensor, I have the same problem, I keep blowing mine, once I replace it, reset the ECM it goes off for a while until I blow it again, P-300 right? I could be wrong, being I am fighting with the same problem in my Z-24 -.-

I need to update this problem.

I used the seafoam and the cel came back on. I then changed my plugs and both the cel and trac off light went off and it stayed off for like a day. It felt like a little smoother idle

This is what happened today:
My trac off light came back on. It was kind of weird. The engine kind of shook or something then i had a little higher idle, about 500rpms higher and it was a rougher idle. About an hour later the cel came back on, but both lights went off in 10 minutes. The next time i drove my car the trac off light came back on and i thought i should try a higher octane gas like 89 to see if that would help with the idle. I put 3 gallons of 89 in (i was almost out of gas) and instantly the trac off light turned off. Then on my way home i felt the misfire, and instantly the cel and trac off light popped back on.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Could this just be a result of running a little rich or something? I have no clue what to do.
