2.3 w41 head swap
Wednesday, August 03, 2005 10:49 AM
I have a 95 z24 5 speed. I want to swap the head onto my 2.4. The head is off of a rare 2.3 with the w41 package. I have complete head with intake and exhaust manifolds, injectors, fuel rail and throttle body. I am going to be pulling the engine and rebuilding it and wanted to add this head. It looks like it would bolt on, has anyone done this swap before? Any information would be helpful before I start in on this.

since your 95 is a 2.3 not a 2.4 it should bolt right on i believe but make sure you get more info as im not very well versed on the 95 2.3. its kind of a bastard engine.

and the 2.3 w41 head is not rare its the same head and motor as the 2.3 HO

only difference is the cams and the chip in the pcm , all the rest identical

the head is the 086 casting head off the Quad 4 HO's, and the cams have a slightly higher lift and longer duration... but go for it. I'm not sure if you can use that head / cam setup with your PCM. I think you are able to. You might be able to get a custom one done from Mantapart, but not sure on that.

the Ho and W41 cams have the same lift. The W41 have 218° compared to 212°.

He can use any head on his 2.3 and the ecm won't see anything. The difference is the air flow.

He can have the 753 head too or a 456 if it has been change. Only the 086 and 955 would be worth swapping.

ah i didn't realize the HO cams had the .410 lift as well. the 086 head is by far the best flowing Quad 4 head out there though so go that route. I believe there is a seller on ebay who sells rebuilt ones with valves jobs, for around $180 and they seem to hold up very well.

The 955 head is far better than the 456 head. The only difference between the 086 head and the 955 is the valves. They both have the same size port but the 955 has the smaller valves.

Just outa curiosity wouldn't it be better to just swap in the Whole W41 motor, since it already has higher compression and no balance shafts?.....

Also, what is a good, used 086 head worth? I found one at a local yard and am comtemplating snagging it.....

it may be cracked. It's hard to say. You can get a rebuild one for 200$.

Yes swapping a whole ho with W41 cams would be better but that ain't my car.
