i just put a different used engine in my 01 2.2l sunfire because the old one overheated to the point of non usage. we thought at first i just forgot to put new coolant in it. so i bought a "new" used engine, 97k, and installed it. turns out my electical fan (whatever it's called) wasn't working so my friends rigged it to turn on whenever i turn the key. So we thought that fixed the over heating problem..
well 2 days ago it started overheating AGAIN (to max, 290 degrees). well this morning it overheated, engine smoked and my car broke down. i didnt drive it long so i dont think my engine is busted this time.
im now looking at a new radiator. any suggestions on what else might be causing my car to overheat?
Check your hoses to see if there is any leaking or if your lines are possibly clogged that coolant through.

mine was also overheating, and it was the cat converter that was clogged!!!
...thermostat is fried? maybe that's the culprit, the fan isn't turning on.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.
Radiator hoses, radiator, temp. sensor, water pump, cat. conv. (rest of exhaust plugged), etc

i think i've got a faulty water pump. you just have to go down the line and check each of those. if none of them are failed... well your motor shouldn't overheat.
