i've looked at all the major chains I can find. Any Ideas??
I have a 2001 Z24 with a Vortec blower pushing 6psi. I currently have a 195 Thermo. The car runs MUCH better when colder - its always in open loop, you know.
Can you get one online???
Thanks, John
dude the 160 t-stat is completely worthless , unless you can reprogram your fuel mapping for it
and im not sure where you got a 195 t-stat from the stock is 180-185
youll get crapy gas milage , and go through plugs , and cat converters alot faster
I have an SAFC piggyback, so the fuel mapping is not a problem.
As long as my AFR stays good, my converter and plugs should be fine, right?
Converter: The exhaust is always like 600 degrees - engine coolant temp doesn't matter.
Plugs: The cumbustion chamber is thousands of degrees when the spark hits.
That's what I am thinking. And I don't know if I have a 180 or 195 or what. All I know is that the guage always reads 195 and the motor runs a lot better when cooler. I don't think it ever goes into closed loop, so that's not a concern. I still get 30+ mpg with the RSM Stage 1 Vortec, beefier injectors, and APEXi SAFC II.
Converter:
Exhaust temp doesn't matter, its the unburnt fuel that kills it.
Plugs:
Again, temp doesn't destroy plugs, excessive fuel coating fouls them, or they are damaged by debris among other things.
You have a 180 degree thermostat. The thermostat opens at 180 degrees, and it takes a bit to cool it. Your cars fuel map was programmed for 195 degree's (regardless of your use of an SAFC), and you can actually do damage by running significantly cooler. Your car does go into closed loop, otherwise you would be throwing a CEL and getting terrible gas mileage.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
the temp gauge reads just under 195 when your looking at it that is in the 185-190 range , but not all our gauges will read the same
your better off keeping the stock t-stat rating , and just doing the fan relay mod so you can control the fan
