2.4 engine swap into a 95 2.2
Wednesday, August 17, 2005 3:11 PM
Im looking into doing a engine swap from a 99 cavie z to a 95 sunfire 2.2. A few things i am wondering....is there a how to anywhere on the net that anyone knows of? If i change my wire harness will my air bags still work? or will i have to find some off a 99? is the 2.4 acually all that much faster then a 2.2?

i just did a search for someone on here recently and found a couple HOs in ontario...one was like 900 canadian but only had a broke timing chain(big whoop) and the w41 cams are easy to get...too bad you cant get one from the us

not really much faster.... avg z on this forum runs 15;s-16;s in stock form. avg 2.2 ohv runs 16-17 stock...

these are a range of manual and auto, with drivers who know what they are doing.

granted with your year 2.2ohv, its possible its obd 1 which is chippable....

the difference 120hp vs 150hp...

30 hp, but also a heavier engine which is part the equalizer.

so the 2.4 is heavier?? hmm..maybe the 2.2 isnt as bad as everyone says...i like it and all but it seems the 2.4 is the most liked engien..maybe ill just hold out for a 2.3ho and if that doenst come along ill just fix up the 2.2...phil

i belive by chip he means eprom ...it changes things in your computer so that you can run a differnt engine..itll also eliminate your govenor, raise your redline, advance spark, things like that...i have the HO version sitting on the desk beside me

it isnt....

its actually pretty easy to work on to be honest... hell i have a 13 second one sitting in my front yard, and from disassembling my spare engine, its really a simple engine.

got plenty of potential... hell robogeek just posted a 2.2 ohv they use in dirt oval, thats putting out 348hp.

for what most people will ever accomplish or can handle, the engine that came stock will be a solid enough platform for em... but people flock to whats popular more so than whats practical.

2.4 is great, but so is the 2.2 ecotec..... and then again so is the 2.2 ohv...

once in a blue moon, you will see someone do something great with each engine.... odd thing is, for every engine, theres been atleast a 350HP one of each.... done by reg members....

from reading posts, the avg is around 250hp on daily drivers.

obd1 were chippable... obd2 need to be reflashed.

wow... a lot of the things before events post were totally inaccurate so let's clarify.

You are OBDII. Regardless of ECU, you will need the LD9 pcm anyways. Once again, irregardless, the engine harness is the same. But you will need the LD9 PCM and the harness from the PCM to the firewall box.

You will need the motor, transmisson, and transmission mounts. The mounts will need to be welded onto your car because they are different, from what I understand, than the 2.2 manual tranny mounts.

The 2.4 is not that much heavier for a 50 hp gain stock for stock. Both motors have potential... it's just much easier to reach with the 2.4. [FONT]
