Ok figured it would prolly be best to post this here. About a week ago I changed my oil. I used Valvoline Max Life synthetic 5w-30, with a K&N oil filter. My car never pinged at all before the oil change while the engine was running or with it being turned off. Now when the engine is on it pings, and when i turn it off it pings till it cools down. It sounds like popping a dent out of a soda can. I really starting to get concerned since it's never done it before. When I changed my oil filter there was a metal pipe type thing that is about 1/4 inch thick, and it got moved a slight bit when I was putting it in. Don't know if that is the problem. but guess it might help to know that my car is an 02 fire 2200, 71300mi, and I never use fuel lower than 90 octane. I would really appreciate the help to fingure out what the hell is going on. Thanks in advance.
I think that is normal. My car has done it since I bought it new. Why do you use 90 octane in a stock engine. Its just a waste of money
I think it's best to use better fuel. To me what my car is doing seems like a problem, it never did it before the oil change so i'm just trying to figure out why
It sounds like your describing the exhaust pipes heating and cooling. Normal
completely normal. dude, higher octane doesn't mean better gas. on our project car we tested the same map on BP 93 octane, and on QuickTrip 91 octane. It runs better on QT gas because QT gas is excellent. Stick to 87 or 89 gas from someone rated in that Top Tier class. Or just read about what higher octane gas really is.

I can see how pinging would be normal. In my case I don't think it is. One day my car doesn't ping at all. "I mean nothing" runs like new.. Then pinging after an oil change doesn't seem normal to me, especially while the engine is running, and i've used the same fuel ever since i purchased the car almost 6 months ago and it didn't ping. so I'm either overeacting or i'm just crazy!
it's not exactly a ping from the way you describe it. run some seafoam through it.

maybe you just never noticed it before. i just noticed my car does it after i shut it off too. no biggie to me. doesn't sound bad. just like @!#$'s cooling off.

SO EVERYTHING!
That sounds like the metal is expanding and contracting from the heat. My exhaust does it like crazy, especially after a hard run or on a very hot day.
Put the car up on ramps or jack stands after diring it and touch the exhaust with a screwdriver. You will probably feel it through the screwdriver.
