Stock Header and Cat Pipe Size on Ecotec

I am getting custom piping done from the cat back and was curious what the stock Cat and header pipe dimensions were on the ecotec?

I believe the inlet size for the stock catalytic converter is 2". As far as what the downpipe size for the header is...I'm not sure.

What size piping were you getting made anyways?

downpipe between exhaust manifold and cat is 2 inch OUTSIDE diameter. its also mandrel bent. exhaust after the cat flange is 2 inch INSIDE diameter, and its compression bent.

I would recommend going all the way. The exhaust maifold/header on the ecotec is very restrictive. Don't jsut go by the outlet. I was amazed when I looked at the stock header and saw how small it was.

Go all the way, trust me you'll love it.

OK well now you've just confused me - why would you consider getting a header if you are getting a turbo setup in a few months? Sorry, I don't mean to sound like an ass, it's just that to answer your question, no the header wouldn't be reused with a turbo setup. Super Charge yes, Turbo no.

Well i was gonna upgrade my exhaust(for my turbo setup prolly gonna do 2.5 in cat and pipe) and a few posts up they said to get a new header. So thats why i asked. It wasn't in any boost faq and i thought i would just ask.

thanks for answering that and no you didn't sound like an ass.

Now one more question and i will go away if i just get crush bent or compression bends how big of a difference am i gonna see between that and mandrel bent both N/A and Turbo???

Thanks for all the help guys.

lol, hey you dont need to go away, we all have questions from time to time.

IMO if you are going 2.5 I don't think it would really be that noticeable of a difference between mandrel or compression bends.

Go to the shop and get a quote for both. If they are a good exhaust shop, they may have even done a few cars like yours before and may be able to recommend based on what they've done.

ie - when I got my exhaust done, I asked the guys honest opinion (i knew what I wanted already) and he recommended 2.25 crush, 2.5 crush if I was going to turbo later on.

I agree with Influx, don't buy the header now. 2 1/2" is a good size for a turbo setup.

Good luck with the turbo CAVolution
