would it be worth putting dual exhaust on a 2.2l ecotec? or is it just a waist of money. approx how many horses will that give me? whats the diffrence between dual and single exhaust? thanks in advance for those who reply. this is a link of the dual exhaust

duals on a 4 cyl is only for looks
no real performance gain but added weight form the pipes

I agree. But I was thinking... in order to reduce noise from my exhaust, a dual muffler setup using something more restrictive..say a Flowmaster Hushpower... should give me a quiet sound while keeping restriction to what I'm used to? No?

or just go with a single muffler and outlet exhaust with a long resonator inline somewhere
nope. not worth it at all, i have duals...

I already have that. Resonator is a long as it can possibly be, still loud.

whats your main pipe size, and the also the pipe size AFTER the y split or dual mufflers?
usually you should cut pipe size after the split.

I have 2 1/4" piping right now. I don't have dual mufflers yet. I was just thinking out loud that if I had two more restrictive mufflers instead of one wide open one, I could cut noise and not lose power.
---
get two straight throughs and lower the pipe size on em a bit from what you have as the main pipe... wont lose power, and cuts noise..
but yea, restrictive mufflers like stock ones....def will lose power...def will cut down on noise
its a looks only mod

I have duals on mine- no power increase (or loss as far as I can tell), but it is nice and quiet. Definately an appearance preference. I would say worth it, but that's because I personally like the way it looks.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color
i have dual flowmaster mufflers right now and it is 2 1/4 back with no resantor. its not really a y pipe more of it spilts where the axle is and goes straight across to the other side then neds straight back and with the mufflers in the back. its not loud but its not quite. backfires though from 3000rpms to about 4500. only if you let off the gas tho while at those rpms. i like the way it looks and i noticed a difference not a huge one but something you can at least tell. good luck
well i love dual for its looks and bcuz it cuts the noise. there are many pros and cons but im leaning more towards getting it. just for da looks.

I'm going with 2.25" dual piping with Magnaflow mufflers mainly for the looks. I have a single Magnaflow now and it is too "fart can" sounding to me so I was going to put a resonator in-line before I upgraded.
Is a resonator really necessary in a dual setup?
Also does a dual 2.25" help any if I would ever go to a boost setup? I know a lot of guyz run 3" piping... Just curious.
Thx.

besides looks, there really are no "pros" to it....
at times in duals resonators are DEF needed... mainly because you are now gonna make twice the noise. so what you have now x 2...
with most duals you should decrease pipe size after the "Y" split
Gotta question where did u get the light that goes back and forth??
AGuSTiN, glad you asked. I had a Flowmaster and could not stand how load it was.
I swithed up and ran two 2 1/2 inch normal $25.00 Advance Auto parts mufflers. My pipe splits just behind the axle and goes into the two mufflers. Now even if they were restrictive as s--t haveing two of them is like haveing a 5 inch muffler. No restriction at all and its nice and quiet with just a mellow sound out of the duel Reative tips I have.
Best of all my ears don't bleed anymore. Good luck man let me know how it works out for you.
So then I would guess duel mufflers CAN increase performance while mantianing good sound control. HUH who would have thunk that? Oh wait ........... I did.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

I have magnaflow duals with 2 1/4 inch piping and it sounds great, nothing like the "fart cannons" u hear on civics everyday, alot deeper, its a lil raspy sometimes but i like it like that because its ver low pitch. I just got duals for looks because personally i think single exits look lop-sided, ill take the extra minor weight gain for a hotter look. because the muffler doesnt weigh that much.
I've got the Thermal Reasearch exhaust system, and I love it. My brother has the RKSport dual, his is louder.
Both can become annoying inside the car, if you don't soundproof the floor.
