Question for the gurus : Signal to cluster
Friday, August 26, 2005 1:34 PM
Ok, the car is comming along great. Should work by next week, but my only problem, in the stock electrical system : The input from the sensors (Speedo, tach, watertemp) go trough the ECU and gets transfered to a Serial data and then go to the cluster. Problem is, the AEM EMS cannot do that ! My question is, does the OBD1 cluster (95 sunfire) work in the same way ? Or is there any way to make the cluster work in another way.

Thanks !

I don't think the OBD1 cluster works the same way.

Based on service manual information, all 3rd gen J car instrument clusters recieve temp, speed, oil pressure, and engine speed information through a data line such as the class II serial data or UART data line. You'll need to install aftermarket gauges or find another vehicle to use as a donor.

Yes, it works in the same way, but the "language" they speak on the data line is different.
