Exhaust Tip Installation

Hi,

In order to get the muffler/tip combination I want from Magnaflow, I have to buy them separately. I'm currently looking at the 14255 muffler (2.25" inlet/outlet, 5x8", stainless steel) and the 35131 tip (2.25" inlet, 3" outlet, rounded round angle cut).

My question is around installing the tip. I have a friend who will be doing the welding, and he may know the answer to this already, but I wanted to post the question anyway for my benefit (it's probably a stupid question anyway).

So, the muffler comes with a basic 2.25" outlet. Do I need to shave this down to weld on the new tip, or does it just weld onto the end of the existing outlet? OR do I buy a 2.5" inlet tip and slide it over top of the 2.25" outlet and weld it on?

Thanks for the info.

that is a ridiculously long tip and you are really overspending honestly. For the tip, you can just clamp it on or weld the two pieces together. You are going to have to have custom piping run anyways. Take a step back, look at what you are doing, and reflect and tell me it makes sense.

Umm.. OK. I guess I don't really know WHAT exactly I'm looking then. I'm going for the 2002 LS look, and have a rear skirt that I'm going to be installing in the near future. The double tip (pointing down) stock exhaust is going to look terrible, so I want a nice rounded single tip to complement the rear skirt.

So, I didn't think I could replace JUST the tip of my stock exhaust, so I started looking at mufflers. I didn't realize the tip I was looking at was so long. Like I said, the Magnaflow muffler's that have tips already on are all 4" (too big for me), so I thought I had to get a separate tip. I don't want to do any custom piping.. I just want to replace the stock muffler and tip.

I realize that I could just order a stock 2002 LS muffler, but I thought I might as well get a wide open quality aftermarket one.

Any other advice would be appreciated from Spotabee or others.

Thanks

...why donthca just buy a muffler with tips already welded on? I just bought numbers 14801 (muffler, dual tip), a 94035 cat, and a...gosh, i dont remember the number..but an 18inch resonator...from hottexhaust.com. john there gave me 10 percent off...with free shipping, whole deal just cost me 235.00. cheap. just waiting on cash to buy a new header, and im golden.

Well, I checked out that site, and they only have Magnaflow mufflers. I'd love to get one with a tip already installed, but all the single ones are 4" (too big for me). I don't want a dual one like you got.

I may try a different company to get the muffler/tip combo that I'm looking for. I checked Borla, and they only have 4"+ as well. I'm only looking for a 2.5" - 3" tip.

Any more help?

...lessee...try jegs.com...im sure they'll have a universal muffler with tip you can buy. I had an apexi n1 muffler on my car for a while (straight thru design)...I loved it when I first got it on, but eventually, i decided the noise was too much..plus, i dont think you wanna pay that much for one. $200.00 hurts the pockets. just search for universal mufflers with tips, and im sure youll find one to your liking. people on the org have had a lot of good stuff to say about the dynomax super turbo muffler as well..

hope it helps.
