Pulleys now what?
Sunday, September 04, 2005 1:00 PM
Alright, now that i've got the unortho crank and alt pulley, its time to move on! I was wondering, what kind of quarter mile times are ya'll running with the 2.4 that have say: header, intake, crank and or alt pulley, secret cam swap, and HO TB and manifold? Or what kind of horsepower (approx) would i see from all of that? Because i'm contemplating doing that instead of the turbo route. What do you all think? I already have (performance wise anyway) :
B&M short throw
AEM Intake
Magnaflow Cat-back
Unorthodox Underdrive
AEM TRU power alt.

The thing about it is, i can get the secret cams, TB all installed for like 300. But i dont wanna even spend it if its not gonna be worth it. I know its all about your personal preference, but i'm speaking strictly from a quarter mile/HP/Torque perspective. Thank you all

Im not sure what kinda gains you will get but they will be noticable...And to get it all installed for 300 dollars is cheep. Just to swap the cams is about 5-8 labor hours and most shops. I say you do it and you will get gains and crazy looks at car shows.

The answers you're looking for, people can't honestly answer for you and be correct. Someone could be running 14.9 and you run a 15.2...there are too many variables when it comes to 1/4 mile times...the same goes for horsepower gains. The only way to really know what kind of gains you'll get is when you dyno your car or run your car yourself. Also, 1/4 times have to deal with your launching and driver skill...some are better than others so that plays in part also.

to answer your questions on how much power and what 1/4 times, you are gonig to have to go out to the track and make some runs, you are gonig to have to get your car dyno'd

exactly...

theres not some magical list that you can replicate to achieve the same results as everyone else...

start adding parts until you get the gains or performance you desire.

if you wanna know HP gains, only way to know REALISTICALLY, is dyno before and after... not being mean or rude, but you will hear so much BS on this adds this and that....

if it were me, i;d honestly, have a plan setup as to what i am trying to accomplish and only add the parts i need to accomplish that....

obviously the secret cam thing works, it wouldnt have been around this long.... as far as worth, you really wont know until you try it. 50% will say its not worth it, and you can get your own custom ground cams, 50% will say it is worth it.

worth is dependent upon is it worth it to you, and you really wont know until you try...

Yeah i understand what you guys mean. I had a quick question. If i get the HO mani and TB and a header (completing my exhaust). Already have CAI, will all of that decrease or increase my mpg?

The HO manifold and throttle should increase fuel economy if you dont drive your car any harder but it seems like most people who mod their cars drive them even harder after the mods so they can feel or hear them in action. But assuming your driving habbits dont change I dont think you'll be using any extra gas unless your holding the gas pedal to the floor. My z24 gets pretty good gas mileage even after the secret cams actually got pretty good mileage on the highway lately but that'll prolly change when I throw in my HO injectors lol. Kinda scared to do it with gas over $1.30 per liter.

Sweet, thanks very much. How much better would the stock HO injectors be?

HO injectors wont help much unless your running lean which I think I am but havent dynoed to check but I figure there easy enough to swap back and forth.
