ok, i removed my cat & unpluged the after cat o2 sensor on my 96 2.2L and i've increased in better gas milage! i got 382 miles to a tank, which shocked the @!#$ outa me! i normaly average about 299-310 miles on a tank on the hi-way.
i'm also running 2.5" piping from the header down pipe straight back to dual 2.5" mufflers
so my question is, NO CAT & NO AFTER CAT O2 SENSOR = BETTER GAS MILAGE?!
and no i aint throwing no codes!

[been code free, i've been a week with out the cat & o2 sensor]

basically your old one was prob close to being clogged, which is a good time to upgrade.
its like a drain, unplug a drain, water flows easier.
doesnt always mean some areas havent deteriorated...
i found that out with my old 91035 after it was punctured..
yea there's really no scientific reason why removing the cat would net you in better MPG. I got incredibly worse MPG when I was running a test pipe on my car.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
maybe yoru ass was plugged so you where all constipated an full of @!#$
Running a straight pipe will have a tiny effect on MPG, but removing the after cat O2 sensor won't, since it has nothing to do with A/F ratio.
I can almost guarantee the cat was bad when you removed it.
Wasn't the 96 ECM one of the half and half ones used in 95 also?

[you can see straight through it & see light]
How was it brand new? Did you recently put this one on the car? If it was the factory one then it was not brand new. It does not matter that you cans ee light through it. They can still go bad.
Oh and don't worry you will throw a CEL. Just a matter of time.
Now I can see gaining gas mileage from removing the cat, it is almost common sense.

whats the thing with the 50/50 pcm ????i want to know
The 94/95 ECM is like 50/50 OBD I/OBD II. Kind of a transitional ECM before OBD II was a requirement. Some of the sensors are required, while others aren't to throw a CEL. It's kind of weird. That and the typical "paper clip" reading technique doesn't work. I just wasn't sure if it carried into 96 or not.
