exhause bender question
Friday, September 09, 2005 2:44 AM
i live in a very sheltered area of PA. so when i ask the shops about mandrel or compression bends they all just give me some vague answer and they are not even sure what i'm talking about.

anyways i know what a mandrel machine looks like but what does a compression bend machine look like and what does a crush bend machine look like so i can just look and decide for myself.

most popular answer i get is "yeah we have a pipe bender, it's all the same"

Thanks
sean

Honestly, if they don't know much about even compression bends, then don't go to them to make it. In your case, being that you live in a small area and limited resources, just buy an aftermarket exhaust setup from Magnaflow or Borla and have them bolt it right up for you.

...yep, I agree. Id go with the magnaflow single exit that a lot of companies sell for our cars...sounds nice, not too terribly loud...not terribly expensive, probably about 300 bucks or so, i think? You could add a resonator as well, if you like, if its too loud..they COULD do that for you, lol...

...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.

borla and mafnaflow are awesome, but expensive systems. check around. i think vibrant makes a system for the cav and they might be less expensive for a still-decent system

I don't know where you live exactly in Pa, but im in the Northeast part and we have a shop locally called American Muffler. I just had them make me a downpipe for my turbo setup. Its the only shop around that I know of that has a mandrel bender. The pipe came out amazing. They are relatively cheap also. Amazing quality.

Hey Sean....check out Greenwald's in Elizabeth. It is a bit of a drive for you, but worth it. Here's their site:

Greenwald's

the site is gay as can be, but they do good work. My catback only cost me $150 (I had the muffler and resonator already)

Also, there is a guy here in Charleroi that will do it maybe cheaper and he has a compression bender (not crush).

e-mail me if you want his info.
