Thermostat in a 2.2

Hey Guys
I want to know if there should be a thermostat on my 96 2.2 and I just replaced my head from a 93 and I need to know if there should be a thermostat bc my car starts to over heat a little bit and I just want to know if there should be a thermostat on my head and yes its drilled and taped for the water outlet.

Yes, for multiple reasons.
First, the PCM needs to read the proper temps, before it will go in to closed loop mode. In open loop mode the computer thinks the engine needs to warm up, so it dumps extra fuel and retards the ignition timing, till it reaches operating temps. This is not good for the motor or the power output, running rich and retarded timing.
Also, the water doesn't stay in the block and head long enough to absorb the heat produced by the engine. My Ex did this when she tried to run away, she ended up overheating the motor, warping and cracking the head and blowing the head gasket. Anyways, when I got the car back, I had allot of work to do, but with 197k miles, I just rebuilt the whole thing, including the tranny.
