I need to know what size the stock piping is on an 04 cavi (base)
will a 2.5 inch inlet on a muffler fit my piping?

Stock size is just about 2"
It will fit if you have a good welder install it but it would be easier to put on a 2 1/4 inch inlet muffler.

Yea the stock is only 2. You should just switch it to 2 1/2.

if your gonna use clamps....go to autozone, and get a 2 inch to 2.5 inch adapter peice

Well you are going to cut the stock muffler off, so you have to fit it properly and you're talking about fitting a bigger muffler and a bigger inlet size muffler on, so it needs to be welded. Take it to a professional.

heh...umm....i was in a hurry when i wrote that......oh and it would work because our exhaust stock is not 2 inch its 1 7/8 inch so a 2 inch would fit

yeah i see what you meant.......2 inch to 2 inch.....not happening
but on my grand am when i put on a new muffler the muffler was a 2 inch and the exhaust was 1 7/8, so i got a 2 1/4 inch pipe that is 5 inches long and just clamped the crap out of it over the new muffler and the old pipe......worked fine for me
