Well time for the 2.3 build.
Monday, October 10, 2005 9:34 AM
Like the subject says, its time for the engine rebuild. I've got the full gasket set p/n, the clevite main bearing p/n, and the eagle rod p/n's. I've searched and searched on the web and can't seem to find any 2.3L oversized(.020-.030) pistons, ARP head or main studs or the clevite rod bearings. For those peolpe out there that have done there rebuilds, could you share some of those part numbers(p/n)??? Also to add to this build, I will be fabricating my own tubular exhaust header and changing my intercooler pipe routing. Any help would be appreciated.

Time to get it going again.....

you can have custom pistons made for the Quad 4 but I don't know anywhere that sells them, especially over bore jobs.

Search for speedvisioncavalier. He ordered some JE or Wiseco pistons for the 2.3. he had them made for 8.5:1 compression.

when I was rebuilding mine I searched several places since my wife worked at advanceauto the sealed power part number is h566p then if you want over size then add the size to the end of the part number ie h566p75mm or h566p100mm or I just order a whole kit here http://www.northernautoparts.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ProductId=894
hopefully that should get you in the right direction.

The Race shop had ARP studs for the 2.3 I think, as well as some pistons......

Also check Car Customs...... I think Karo's site listed 2.3 stuff.....

then there is always Mantapart.......

Well, as for Mantapart goes, that would be a negative!!! They want $650.00 for forged pistons alone....sad. I'll prolly give Karo a ring.
Brian, which speed shop are you refering to??? As for power wise and how far I want to go; I would say 15 psi daily, 20 max. I'd like to hit 300hp give or take. My plans are to use the h.o. cams for the 912.3L, bore the block .020 -.030, remove the balance shafts (if possible), port and polish the head, put in some stailess steel valves, make another header; only tubular, obviously change all of the seals and gaskets and update the fuel system. Anything I missed, please mention it.......too hungry, gotta eat.

ARP Main studs: 281-4301
ARP Head studs: 281-5401
(if you want to look them up on ARP's site, you have to remember that the Quad4 is an Oldsmobile motor)

Wiseco has pistons, they're probably just so old and slow moving they don't bother listing them anymore. Call them.

Use a 91-94 block to start.
Oddly, while an old 2.3 oil pump can be retrofitted to a 2.4 block and hence, the balance shafts removed, The 95 2.3 lacks the material drill the new feed lines. It also lacks the material to really securely locate the pump.

Todd, thanks a ton for the info. on the studs and the block. I had a weird feeling that it was going to be difficult for the balance shaft removal.
Scott, thanks for the website, muchley abliged. I really want to avoid Mantapart

now thats not what I wanted to hear....... hmmmm...... I'm going to have to get my hands on a 95 block to play with........ sadly while I was w/ HighRev, we pulled a 95 block out of a sunfire that threw a rod threw the side...... would have been a nice block to mess with......... at least to drill holes in, and try to make something work. (trying to find a way around the 2.3 CPS and 2.4 crank....... )
