Ok, here's the deal. I read through the performance upgrade post and came across the install for the Apex'i AFC. It tells you how to add one to a 2.3 or 2.4, but what I want to know is has anyone in here used one on the 2.2? I've been looking into different options for engine tuning and from what I can see the ECU reflash offers no real guarantees, and these computers are stubborn (thanks, GM!). I've used the Apex'i unit on other projects and the tuning ability was incredible, as when paired with a good aftermarket ignition control, I could pretty much make the engine do what I wanted. This is my first Cavalier, and I'm on a learning curve here. I've already got the mod list figured out as far as what I want and what I need, but the ECU is the missing link. Unless I can get the fuel and ignition under wraps, everything else is pointless.
well there's a lot of work to be done with fuel. it's not supportive. now, if you are planning on sticking within the means of the factory fuel injectors, then sure have at it. an SAFC is a great way to fool the computer. BUT. i would never use an SAFC for boost so I hope you aren't planning on boosting your 2.2
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
No boost. I've got other cars to play with for that. All my friends are boost heads. As far as this car, I'm leaving the internals alone for now. I ran a compression check and everything was in good standing, and the rotating assembly on these cars seem to hold up pretty well. I added a lightened flywheel but that's it there. I'm using larger injectors and a full MSD ignition setup. I also run a custom air intake, 1.6 roller rockers, and a full exhaust. The head surface has been machined for a little higher compression and I did a slight port-match to help increase flow. I also have an AEM fuel reg and a pump from an S10 V-6.
