well I finally dyno'd my car at CNFX in Pa firstly I want to say thanks to tony for letting us come up and utilize the
facilities it was a great experience.
My engine is currently getting ready to be boosted, there's still lots to buy in order to do so, but as the goal changes
the parts change so I'm waiting to find a definite result before I go about the means.
Anyway, my mods are as follows:
rsm intake
4:1 header
no cat
magnaflow dual exhaust
MSD blaster coils, ngk iridium plugs, magnecore wires
ported and polished head, SS valves backcut & swirl polished
it looks like I've gotten the car to put flywheel hp down at the wheels now.
I'm impressed with my torque curve and peak number, I thought hp would be a bit higher, but this is alright since
I'm no where near done modifying it yet, the grand finale of course being a T3 super 60 blowing about 10psi of boost.
115hp may not sound like a lot, but it puts me into 15s and a lot of Zs and Ecos can't do that.
It isn't how much HP you make its how you use it (and how light you are)
Those are some nice numbers to start with. Good Work

Sooo true.....
Great Numbers- Like to see the Potential of the 2.2- Keep us Posted!
Looks good PJ

why dont you just do a motor swap?

Motorswap != Cheap
If he's enjoying the car and his results that's great!
What's stock WHP of a 2200?
My bro got 136WHP when he dynoed his eco stock .

motor swap takes the challenge out of it and if you can get a 2200 to perform as well as a better engine thats more to brag about to. i mean why turbo an ecotec when you can swap in a 3800 s/c? using the stock stuff and making it better is more joy to some people
nice work btw PJ keep going at it

The one, the only, ME.
Not to bad....i cant belive your in the 15's puttin around 115hp to the ground....that's really good
This might be kind of a pointless point, but what kind of track times do u think u would be putting down if you threw on a 75 shot. 15.7 is really good for the ammount of power you are making. Makes me look forward to building my 2.2.
75 shot if I could get traction I'd probably be deep into 14s
stock whp for a 2200 is probably in the neighborhood of 95hp or so altho I've never dynoed my car stock before
it WILL be getting a lot stronger in the coming months and I do plan on taking it to the track again all motor before the year is out to see what it can do... I ran my 15.7 when it was kinda cold out, so I'm hoping I can best that with no other mods (just a higher launch rpm) and good driving
I'll probably run it all motor one last time next march with every bolt on upgrade you can buy for the car installed (all I have left are roller rockers, 62mm TB and underdrive pullies) and a fidanza flywheel a stage II clutch. I have the roller rockers, they would be installed but the correct sized studs have been on backorder for about a month or two
but soon thereafter it will be turbocharged and i'm never looking back
^^^Pretty close AEM dynoed a stock 2200 and they got 100.6 WHP out of it and 127 TQ

Madjack wrote:Like I said before, building an engine like ours (2.2 or 2200) is a painstaking chore , since there is so few custom made parts. It's frustrating to me too, but that's what I like about doing this engine, it's the challenge.
I think AEM's dyno is biased.
I find it interesting that they claim a 10HP increas from their CAI for teh sunfire. But if you check their dyno sheets on their site is hays 8.9hp. 8.9 doesn't equal 10, it's about an 11% difference.
like everyone else said tho GJ. I also find it more enjoyable to build the car than to just drop a bigger engine in it.

I first dynoed my 2200 all stock except a custom intake and a glasspack muffler, and I got 101 WHP and 130 ft/lbs.
Squirrel keep up the good work man, you must be a really good driver to get those kinda times with your car cause right now without the spray im 5 hp less and about .8 sec slower.

115 hp! Oh my god what a turd!!!
Nice numbers man, cant wait to see what ya gain with the rockers

.
What is the stock whp on a 2.2 ecotec?
Best Time 15.917 at 86.86MPH
anywhere between 120 and 130ish depending on dyno and weather.
Remember guys, there aren't many engines that can get 20 whp out of i/h/e and a ported head (without any other airflow mods like a cam or higher ratio rockers). Plus it was running real hot (what 2200 isn't?). All with stock fuel and timing. I mean think about it, 20whp gain by just removing restrictions to airflow. That's fricking impressive on any all motor 4 cylinder. PJ wants turbo with a vengeance, but I'd give anything to see what the skwirl could do with the proper tuning, a wild street cam, the crane rockers, and 10:1 or higher compression. I gotta stay out of these threads, the urge to build an engine just keeps growing!!

you forgot to mention PJ that if you dodn't have your fingers in your ears for 2 out of the three runs you could be considered def

. just playing with ya, i am watching everything you do cause this exact same process will be undertaken in my car , starting probably in the spring. i look at your car and think that is mione in another yeat

2500 pounds even. (without me)
so 2615 with me in the car haha
removed passenger seat, removed jack n spare... thats about it so kind of full interior
I now have a carbon fiber hood so the weight might be down to 2600 with me in the car...
My exhaust flows like crap so i think thats whats killing me... I'm going to redo some of the piping for the next pull and see what she puts down then (and maybe a new thermostat... or no thermostat hehe)
the car was definetly the loudest one there... everyone had to plug their ears lol

i was talking to chris(chameleon cavalier) about your exhaust and how i thought it was killing you. I definetly think u need some work there. Otherwise i think u have a nice setup
well other than the loud part and the dual in the rear (yea I know)
its butchered together. The main pipe under the car has 3 flanged points, and the test pipe that replaces the cat is horribly horribly welded together. there's basically a nice cavity between the pipes in that section letting the exhaust expand before hurrying back into the ajoining pipe.
I'm going to fix the main pipe (one single seamless welded straight pipe) and possibly have a bypass for the Y pipe... do one dyno with dual exhaust, then two runs bypassing the Y pipe to see if I pick up any horsepower
that and the temperature problem (new thermo going in VERY soon) I should pick up some HP and TQ
I'll keep everyone posted
