Hey guys i just bought a 2001 5speed 2.4 z24, i was thinking of getting a nice exhaust system but im not too sure what header is best, i was thinking of a 4-2-1 stainless steel header...but from there i dont know...i know i want 2.24 piping, and either a flowmaster or magnaflow muffler...but what muffler should i go with..im used to the 3.1v6 with cat so id like to have a nice sound like that...but i know a 2.4 cant produce the same as a v6 but i dont want no high pitched fart can sounds..can you guys help me out? would i want a hi flow cat or a resonator?? thx guys

I was just helped out with this so I will pass the knowledge. The Best and most commonly used on JBO is Magnaflow. Your not turbo'd so go with 2.25 piping. Replace the cat with a High Flow Magnaflow. You could go with the resonator but it will be kinda farty and will backfire will your slowing down. Theres plently of Mufflers out that you can get like Magnaflow and Borla are both great and well liked. You can Pick one up on ebay for about $70.

Your Looking at:

High Flow Cat- $55
Muffler $70
Tips $24 each
Piping at a Decent Cost - $200 Local Exhaust Shop

You want Mandrel or Compression Bends!! Stay away from Crushed Bends they get ribbed and warp which can lose flow and - horsepower.

Around $360 you can have a nice setup verus's $500 Plus for the same deal!

why would i want compression bends?? cuz honestly the piping is only as good as its smalles hole right, so compression bends make the pipe half its size in the bend, id much rather go with crush, might have a litte resistance but atleast the bends wont be half their seize....does anyone else agree or am i on my own with this one?

Man what the hell are you talking about?? I think I speak for almost everyone when I say your on your own on this one!! The piping won't be half the size! It's just the way they do the bends. COMPRESSion dosen't mean That they will compress 2.25 piping to a smaller dia. Do a Search and see where everyone is at on this Topic.

1. Mandrel Bends
2. Compression Bends
and 3. If you have to Crushed Bends Which won't last. Like they told me Stay away from it!

lol i dont know see i read all u guys saying compression is better yeasterday, but then i went to another forum and there saying crused is better!! i know crushed makes wrinkles and resistance thats why i didnt want it, but then pepole are telling me crushed is better cuz compression bend the pipe and makes the diameter half the size then the pipe....i unno im miked up and im just trying to figure out what exhaust to do but im getting different answers all the time lol. anyways thanks for your help ill prolly go with compression like i was going to in the 1st place.

Crushed reduces the diameter of the pipe thus restricting the flow and causing a bottle neck. The ribs also disrupt the laminar flow of the exhaust gases, that causes more friction which slows down the gas flow.

Compression keeps the pipe diameter, only changes the pipe shape from a circle to an oval. that change in shape does cause some turbulent flow, but no where near what a crush bend would cause

Mandrel keeps the pipe's diameter the same from one end to the other and through all the bends, so the flow stays the same. however it generally is a bit more pricy

Honestally, I think the people on the other board are confusing crushed and compression with each other. besides, crushed lust looks cheap and nasty...
