Does anybody have a Monza exhaust system?
Monday, October 17, 2005 12:15 PM
I was browsing ebay and i found a cheep cat back exhaust system by Monza. I like that it is black and I was winderingif anybody had it on the car. I have an 04 Cavalier.
If anybody has pics of it I would appreciate if you posted them. Also does the system sound raspy or is it a deeper sound?

here is a link to the system

They're made by Pacesetter. I have never used one on a Cavy, but I did put one on a friend's Civic. It was okay for the money. A little louder than stock, and it had a resonated tip that helped mellow it out a bit, but it still kinda sounded like a fart can. The pipe is aluminized steel, WAY cheaper than stainless, but it's the same material most factory exhausts are made of. The pipe is mendrel bent, which is a good thing. As long as it doesn't get a ton of moisture trapped in the midpipe, it should last a while.

are they all waranted for 3 years? I have one on my 2200 and it kinda rattles in the rear after one year. Not bad for the price though

You know, I'm not sure. The rattle could be a bad hanger. I would call Summit. They sell them and should know the warranty stuff, or you could check the web. Find Pacesetter's site. That will have the answers you need I would think.

any exhaust that isnt stainless will rust

for the money it is a decent system , might need to add a resonator

but i need to add a resonator to my rk/magnaflow

any exhaust that a local shop is going to make will be made from the same aluminized tubing pacesetter uses , only difference will be the bends , pacesetter is mandrell bent , local shops 90% are NOT mandrell bent tubing

and you get your choice of muffler and tip , and youll still most likely need to add a resonator also

if you live where they use road salt , and you dont wash the salt off the exhaust , it will rust faster , you have to wash the salt off like you do the rest of your car , its all a matter of wether you care to wash it or not

i know several people with the pacesetter and are happy , a couple did add a resonator

I just picked up a stainless muffler from a local shop for $50 had an exhaust shop custome mandrel bend 2.25" stainless pipe and install everything for $250... Didnt really want the mandrel bent but it was either that or a $#!t4 job done by a different shop.....

Does anybody know if a universal Magnaflow muffler and custom 2.25in pipe from the cat back from a local shop would get me any performance? And would this sound any better than the stock exhaust?

here is the link to the muffler i am looking at!

Magnaflow is one of the best names out there in exhaust components so yes its a good product. As far as sound goes yes anything you do to your exhaust is going to change the note be it changing the pipe diameter muffler or even adding a tip. like i said before i just had a custom catback system put on my car and i wouldnt say i noticed any real HP gains its almost like the redline shifted.... seems like the motor revs higher and isnt as stressed... the only thing i can think of is the back pressure is reduced a little bit. In order to really gain noticable HP from an exhaust system you have to replace the whole thing. Think about it like this.... take two pipes one 2" around and one 4" around... flow the water through the 2" pipe and into the 4" pipe.... what happens when the water gets to the 4" pipe? it doesnt fill as much of that 4" pipe as it did the 2" pipe. Even though you made the pipe bigger it still flows the same ammount of water it just loses pressure... An exhaust system is only really as good as its weakest link. I am using some of the logic from my fire dept days here and could be totally wrong and if i am...... I am sure I will be corrected. but thats my take on it.

Correct. They are 2 different units. Magnaflow sounds so much better IMO.
