fst_99Z24 wrote:Event this question is for you, or anyone else who may know. i understand that the TBs from the 2.3 would fit onto the 96-99 cavies. the tbs from the 88-93 skylarks and acheivas and also the grand am se/gts. but some came with the 3 speed and others the 4 speed. does it matter which tranny the TB came from? or do i need the TB from a 4speed tranny? thanks in advance

from what i have seen in the junkyard, i dont think the transmission type will make a difference.

now keep in mind i am referencing what i have seen, and the way our cars are as well. we dont have different TB's from car to car really. same basic piece.

to be on the safe side though, try and get the one that looks the closest DESIGN as your stock one. in this post i have seen a new TB someone posted on page 1.... but the one i posted above is the closest to the stock one we have....

DUBDUCE18's, if you have a tach, one thing i am thinking that can explain the MPG gain.... you wont get nearly as high of rpms from the 56mm tb as you do from the 52, from the small loss of velocity... the lower the rpms, the less gas used

so pretty much any GM 2.3 Quad 4 motor has the 56mm TB? VIN A, 3 & D?
Or is it just the High Output Engines?

Thanks.

i think as long as its from the 2.3 quad 4 it'll be ok. keep in mind though(from what i heard) if you're auto, get an auto tb, if you're stick get a stick tb. i cant explain the reason but thats my understanding from the searches and reading on the tb swap. anyone correct on this is appreciated.

Event, do i have to dremel the rectangular piece to get it out?im having the same issue about the rocker arm being aligned differently from the 2.4. the rocker arm is facing or is more on the bottom than the top-side. is it possibe to still use the 2.3 rocker arm but once its loosened to just turn it to the proper alignment like the 2.4? i gotta check if i have a dremel somewhere in the garage, never used the dremel b4
any advices? thanks in advance

simply imagine this...

if the rectangle is 1 inch high and 2 inches long, dremel it down to 1/2 and inch high and 1 inch long....

just the sides.

if you look at my pictures, and look at the throttle rotor sitting on the table, the side closest to the bottom you can see there is NO rectangle there....

its gone. its the same size as the rotor really now....

dont make it harder than it really is

nono i got the ld2 tb to fit with the ld9 bellcrank, i gave the link to Shaune Drake and Luke Heier. lol Funky Bottoms (Event) for now i didnt use the cruise control as a 'washer to hold the bellcrank in place, its fits pretty tight in there on the rod. i've been driving for about 2 weeks w/o the bellcrank rolling off. i think i have a good amount of the rod space left over from keeping the bellcrank from slipping anywhere.

worse comes to worse and you have play, you can use washers. if you wanna remove the CC that is...

i rarely use my CC anyways, plus the section on the CC or the washer part theres a piece missing it so i would have to weld the piece back on again lol for it to fit back onto the tb rod

Sorry to bring this post back up but..... How would this work on a 5spd 99 2200? Would any mods have to be done or no?

yes it would and that all depends...

the mods listed are all you have to do for a DIRECT fit. do you mean mods like on the engine or something?

Sorry I meant to the TB. Event, you mentioned the autotrans a lot and it seemed you had to ad the extra vac line for the 2200 auto, and i was wondering if that was neccessary on the manual 2200. BTW Event you have mail!
