ok for those of you helping me along i have abandoned my dream of a monster 2.2l sunfire and bought a 2.4l can anyone who has one or had done enything with one give me the lowdown on the ld9 motor and transmission, like any information u have available, like what mods are recommended and what mods are available power output , stress tolerances of the parts etc.
Well you have to ask yourself:
1. How much money do you want to spend/invest into your motor?
2. What kind of power gains are you looking for?
3. How much "downtime" are you willing to put up with?
4. Are you staying Naturally Aspirated or going Forced Induction?
Depending on wear and tear, the Getrag transmission can handle a decent amount of power but the clucth might start slipping after a while.

Look at my 98 cavalier z24 in my profile theres some N?A Parts......I just bought a 99 sunfire gt today and its gonna be a turbo project, it all depends what you want and also what you want to spend as mentioned before.
so the 5 speed in the 2.4 is a getrag? even in the 96's? this will probably be a turbo project in the future at some point.

Actual let me correct you:
95-99 Manual Transmissions were Isuzu Transmissions
2000+ Manual Transmissions were Getrag Transmissions

thats what i thought. and the bell housing on the 2.4 is different from the 2.2 are there any swaps available to the 2.4?

You can't swap a transmission from one motor onto a different motor.
(not sure about the 2.3 onto the 2.4 though)
