EXHAUST ?

Ok i have a 2003 turboed Cavalier. HAHNS stage 2 kit. The Exhaust is 2 1/2 from the downpipe to the muffler. I dont have a cat and the muffler is a flowmaster. After the muffler it splits into duel. 1 into the muffler and 2 out. Also my car is running rich.

Ok the problem. It back fires sometimes and pops alot. Is this bad? What causes this? And will there be any problems that might come from this? The back fires arent that bad.

Thank for the help guys.

Jason

Usually backfire is due to running rich (especially on turbo cars). The popping is more than likely due to you not having a catalytic converter to tone it down.

Pops out the tails when you let off the gas? My old turbo firebird did too, its basicly cause of when you let off the gas you still have some unburned in the engine and it gos WAAAAYYYYY rich for a second or two. You can try a resonator and see if that helps you out.

Good luck.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.

Yeah is probaly just because of your exhaust setup, add a resonator.

You're welcome.

Actually depending on your state laws, you should put your catalytic converter back on and probably invest in an Electronically Controlled Exhaust Dump or possibly a Boost Activated Exhaust Dump. This would open up and act pretty much as a huge exhaust leak. On Turbo'd cars, this would elliminate backpressure which would increase your power tremendously.

To describe a bit more, the Electronically Controlled one is controlled by you, you move a switch and it opens, move it again and it closes. The Boost activated one only opens when you are in boost levels. When you aren't at full boost, it's partially open, in full boost it's completely open. During normal driving it would be completely closed.

Yes, these are illegal but you're less likely to get caught without a cat than to have a nicely installed exhaust dump. Just food for the mind.

If you want links to sellers of these parts, let me know.

I don't know any state where it is legal to run a 74 and newer vehicle without a cat conv.
