if you have exhaust and intake what is the next thing to get

Re: new mods

Well do you have a full exhuast or just a muffler or catback?

How much money do you want to spend?

What do you want to do with the car?

How much power do you want?

I'm guessing you have a 2200, or a 2.2

The next step depends on how much you're willing to spend. An underdrive pulley? You could go for a Port and Polish and a 3 angle valve grind, but that obviously requires some major dissasembly. After that there's a LOT you can do, how thick is your wallet?

How about an upper and lower engine mount? Poly urethane control arm bushings? Suspension work? (lowering, adjustable struts, etc)

All of those things do aid you in putting the power to the ground better, but the sky's the limit as to what the next step would be.

im looking to spend about 2 to 3 hundred and small modes would be my choice i want to bring it up to 200 wihtout turbo or nitrous but by spending more moeny of course but for about 200 or 300 wats a good mod or 2

you might wanna fill out your profile. complete with car and whatever mods you have done. it will help us in the furture so we can answer your questions.

engine mounts are good, they are like $70.
if you have a manual, they are tranny mounts for $50
a Lightened Alternator Pulley is $80
Lightened Billet Aluminum Crank Pulley $180
ceramic coated header is $260
and you can take your stock tb and have a local machine shop bore it out for you. call around for prices

thats all i can think of right now

thanks guys and i think i am gonna get the headers and probably a high flow cat and maybe a tb spacer is that a good idea
Re: new mods
Tuesday, November 22, 2005 5:07 PM
get the header and HFC since you don't wanna go FI, forget about the TB spacer unless you plan on getting nitrous and even then wait to install it with the kit, and get the mounts.

hell i would suggest mounts first just so you have the time it takes to get them and install them to think more about where you wanna go.

Re: new mods

You won't reach 200whp with a limit of $300 (if that is what you mean). You'll need to spend alot more in order to reach that range.

A header and cat are a good idea, just make sure you do some research on what kind of header you'd like. A tb spacer won't really do you much good and is basically worthless in my opinion. It may shift your powerband up in the rpm's but that's not necessary with our cars. Our powerband is pretty good across the range and there's no good reason to shift it.

Completely forgot about nitrous - good call ToBoGgAn. You'll be able to drill into the spacer instead of the tb itself with nitrous.

as far as I know 2200 crank pulley's are hard to come by. Sorry I thought you had a 2.2.

I dont know of anyone making aftermarket intake manifolds for the 2200.. You could always go to Hogan's and ask them to custom make you one (BIG coin)

You could do the crane cam gold roller rocker/fulcrum setup, that nets some nice gains.

It's a good idea to do the motor mounts while you are installing the header.

Re: new mods

How hard is it to actually install motor mounts. It makes sense that if you removed one mount, the engine would sag, and that could be bad, do you jack it up from the oil pan?

Gonna sidebar here, if i had a full exhaust (2.25), AEM Short RAM (Which i actually do have), 4-1 Header, mounts etc, as well as secret cams, when would fuel and or spark related parts have to come into play, as well as the HO Intake Manifold, and TB (98 Sunfire GT), just wasnt sure when id need to do fuel and spart mainly.

forget about 200 hp (even if it's not whp) on your car if you go n/a and spend any less than a few thousand dollars. Having 4 cylinders only does have consequences on the potential simple mods have

The easy way would be to spray nitrous, but even then, I'm not sure how the 2200 holds up the nitrous.

oh yeah. with all the bolt-ons (and I mean all), you're looking at about 150 hp max (no not whp) on a 2200.

Please kindly correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm saying this because Flying squirrel's car has most of the bolt-ons and even some work to the engine (not 100% sure on that) but runs mid-high 15s

Re: new mods

^^^I wouldn't say any more than 150 at the crank, there's just not enough work done to the engine. On a sidenote, the Flying Squirrel may be swapping his motor so I don't think he's even going to bother with the 2200 anymore. Its not exactly that great of a motor to begin with.

Ender - what you have are still basically bolt-on mods and one or two other things. I wouldn't worry too much about fuel and spark until you really got into the engine (i.e. FI or built motor).

of course we don't. so why are you asking us the question ?

Go ahead and do all the mods you want. When you get beat by a stock cavalier with the same engine as you, don't come to us crying

Re: new mods

I see you coming, and no you don't need to have anything done to your car to have knowledge about a particular engine's potential. If you don't believe me, fine, ask someone who has successfully obtained 200 hp on a 2200 with very little money spent. have fun searching. I've been on the forums here for a while now, and know for a fact it is simply not possible unless you use nitrous.
