What does "Open Header" mean?

Hey all, I am looking at picking up a pacesetter header and after its bolted on, people say they drive "open header" to the exhaust shop to get it all welded on. I know its a newbie question, but what d oes the term mean?

open header mean that nothing else is connected to it. meaning you have no exhaust hooked up hence open

^^^ exactly, all you have for an exhaust system is a Header, nothing from the Catalytic Converter back.

No. Its only the header. The cat is about 3 feet farther downstream.

^^ He makes a good point. However, I'd consider anything up to the cat to be open header. Sure, if you had to have your B pipe and your cat welded together or something, sure, that's not "technically" open header. However... "open downpipe" would refer to a turbo car running 0 backpressure with only the turbo exhaust downpipe outlet or just a turndown or something. However, on a non-turbo car it's not a "downpipe" it's a "B" pipe. And without a cat / muffler it's going to be just as loud as open header, so therefore I say that if you are disconnected anywhere before the cat, that's "open header"

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
