Need the .Orgs help! (secret cam swap issues)
Friday, November 25, 2005 5:13 PM
Okay guys, I've always found what I needed on here and I nee ya'lls help again. I finally got some time off and did my cam swap. It's all back together. I got the timing right and everything. It runs great and idles perfect. Now the problem:

It is leaking oil.

I drove it to town and came back and there was oil all over the underside of the car. It had dripped down onto the halfshaft and flung everywhere. I did some searching and found that the gasket on the end of the exhuast cam was not sealing so I switched it out and then it seemed like it was all sealed up so I went to O'riely's. Stopped at the gas station on the way back and noticed it was dripping oil again. I am so pissed. Any ideas what could be leaking? Anything I might have overlooked? Any common places for it to leak? Need some help guys. I took a breather and now I'm off to check it over again.
Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Wash your motor, then look again.

Did you tighten down your cam towers all the way.? Im sure you did though.

Is your timing chain cover tightend down all the way? I could be leaking there.

Okay, I've been working on it and I am sure that it is dripping from the drivers side (back of the motor). I believe it is still that gasket on the end of the exhaust cam. I took it back apart and cleaned it and re-installed it with some silicone. I am about to take it for a test drive. Wish me luck.

Maybe its leaking from the oil pressure switch,or the gasket behind the p.s pump.

Probably that plate on the end of the cam tower. Make sure you have all bolts in it. Also make sure you have the gasket in the correct position as well.

Just hope that it's not your cam tower gasket, or you are going to have to do it all over again. Did you have to remove any of the carrier gaskets and then put them back? Once they are seated, they are garbage, and you have to replace them.

On my buddies z we had that problem but corrected it instantly theres a little clip that can stick under that gasket if your not careful, and that will cause it to fire out a lil oil. I'd bank you just solved your problem.

Yeah, thats what it was. That little tab was under there and was causing the leak. It ruined the new gasket though so I put the old one back in with some RTV and it works great. I know, I know, RTV is bad, but to get just that little gasket by itself is a pain. seyes* Thanks though.

Also, another question: Where is the sending unit for the Low oil light? I was coastibg down a hill it town and the low iol light came on, then went off when I reached the bottom. I checked the oil and it is full....weird.
