BLOCK BORING

Getting my block bored over .040 will this mess with the head gasket because the bore is going to be bigger than the openings in the head gasket for the cylinders? Get it? Any suggestions please

I believe you would need an gasket to match the bore but damn... .040...you'd have to get rid of alot of material. What are you planning on re-forcing the walls with? Not even sure if it's possible on an OHV. Are you re-sleeving?

You're going to need to have the block posted.

Get the block posted? What the hell is that?

And for just .040 over? Typically .020 is done just to clean it up, .040 isn't much more.

O noes!

a machine shop drills screws basically with caps into your block, 4 per cyl on each side. this is a cheap and effective method to strengthen your factory sleeves. You can get it done for about $200

You can bore .040 and run it. There's several people here running .040 over bore and 12-15psi turboed. You're only taking .020 off the walls. Take a piece of paper and fold in half then fold it in half again, that's how much is taken of the wall all the way around.

A new head gasket should be able to clear a .060 over bore without a problem.

.040 over ain't much at all. Start talking .150 over and thats huge! /\ /\ /\ is right just get a head gasket for a .060 over bore and you'll be fine.

No but now you need oversized piston rings.

Even the OEM head gasket will accept .040 oversize.

/\ /\ /\ See I wasn't sure if the stock one would still work but if you say so. And I would go with .040 pistons not just the rings. By boring the block and not increaseing the piston size your not really doing anything for performance.

Not only that but your motor will only last about 10 seconds. Any time you overbore you MUST use over sized pistons.

Sorry I wasn't more clear on the stock head gasket being acceptable for an overbore...

first i think any time you remove your head you should be looking at replacing the head gasket, for sure,, (fellpro or a copper) next if you are going to over bore best time to think ob the bottom end, pitons and rings will need to be changed for sure, get that bottom end ready for futuer endevors (turbo/sc) what ever

That should do the trick!! I would skip those copper head gaskets tho. I tried them on my old big block pontiac engine and they leaked coolent out the side between the block and the heads. Boy was I pissed!! Had to tear the whole damn engine back down and replace the brand new copper ones for Felpro perma torque ones and never had another problem. I know others have had good luck with them but I damn sure will never ever ever ever try to use them again.

Yea the only problem is that the pistons are custom order and are going to take 6 to 7 weeks
