Installation of WeaponR intake support bracket
Thursday, November 17, 2005 2:14 PM
Hey fellaz,

Installed WeaponR's secret weapon intake and can't figure out how to mount the support bracket that keeps the lil' bugger still. Anyone familiar with the install?

P.S.

I done a search, nada.

Peace,
inDgo

LOL Firefighter:

Man that might end up being what I'll have to do. Were your instructions as vague as mine? "Install support bushing into hole closest to air filter, then bend straight bracket to meet bushing, fasten with supplied nut and washer." I see NO hole near the air fliter that would allow the bracket to bend/shape correctly for fastening.

True, true...but you have to admit that if you entertained the thought of the support bracket installation, you'd naturally turn to the instructions once you discovered that the little support bushing has no place to actually thread to. Oh, and I envy your faith in the zip-tie...

Peace

I put a screw into the metal frame around the strut, and also used the bracket to mount my LED voltage meter

Very nice....think I'll borrow a buddy's electric drill and do the same. Niiiice about the voltage meter, too...sweet idea.

Definately don't let it hang. I did that and the hood pushed the intake on to the battery. It shorted my whole car and burned a hole into the intake pipe. Not a real big deal in terms of repairing, but a giant pain in the a$$.

well like i said its been four months and if u install it correctly the hood shouldnt be pushing it anywhere. my filiter is next to the battery so even it it fell it would just fall beside it. and like i said the plastic rubber piece or w/e around the filter stops anything from coming close to the battery. but i will get a bracket on it eventually but theres no potentail problem for me that is, so im procrastinating. lol

Most likey the intake works on other cars too, So the instructions add that piece if needed. Mine just hangs. Its not a weapon R, its actually quite larger, and i have no problems with the hood. see pic in sig.

El Fuego:

No, actually the Secret Weapon intake we're talking about was specifically designed for the '03-'05 Cavys. Even the '02 Ecotec model intake is slightly different in design due to hood clearance issues. They actually have different part numbers from WR, too.
Just some insight
