Is there a difference with the crank in a 95 sunfire 2.2 as compared to a s10 2.2 engine, the crank in my sunfire was completely trashed, I ended up getting one from an s10 motor on ebay the journal size was correct allong with the trigger for the ignition but I am getting excessive endplay like a 1/4 inch! apparently something is different.
I believe they are the same...
Here are the specs for the 2.2 Ln2 if you want to cross the number with those of the s-10's

Not trying to make you look bad, but are the thrust bearings in the engine and on the correct journal?
after looking at the situation more it just doesnt make any sense, I checked on autozone website and both take the same crank part number the motor was in a 95 s10 with a 2.2 both cranks have the same casting numbers I put the thrust bearing on the same journal which was the second one from the back which was recessed for the bearing to fit, here is the bay link that I got it from
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7998886546&category=33616
tomorrow I am going to put a dial indicator on the end of the crank and find out exactly how much play is in it, I know it is quite a bit
after looking at it more the new crank has a groove machined on the journal that the thrust bearing would mate to one the back side, almost looks like a thrust washer would fit in there, does anyone know if some 2.2's had a thrust washer in them, its not from wear you can clearly see that it was machined into it, I checked my end play and has .072 which would mean that I have .070 to much.
the ohv never used a thrust washer.
What are you using for bearings?
do you have auto or manual tranny? if you have manual you should sell me your eng whip and junk the car and you wont haft to worry about the crank. if its auto its junk
