People ask this question alot...
Worth modifying comes down to the owner of the car. If you like your car and motor enough to invest thousands into it, go for it. If you don't believe in it or want to modify your motor, then don't cause evidentally it's not worth it to YOU to modify. No one here can give you a yes or no answer or they shouldn't give you a yes or no answer because it's all preference. It's kind of like asking "Should I eat a Milky Way or a Snickers?"...it'll all come down to what you want.
Yes, you can make plenty of power. Now and days, it doesn't really matter too much on what motor you have because of forced induction. Forced induction opens a whole new world, especially for 4 cylinder vehicles. Also, it all comes down to who and how you build your motor. If you do it correctly and don't cheap things out, you can make plenty of power with a decent amount of money invested.
Hope this gives you a bit more insight. Good luck.

It works for me..... look at sig....
how much power do you want to make?
answer that, then I'll answer you question.
yea i'd say it's up to the owner, i've done mine up a little andit's suprising how snappy they are
is it worth it?....I don't know to me so far yes, it gives me something to do and I enjoy moding my cav. But If you ask me was it worth it in like June when I am done building my motor I will let you know. and if i'm not satisfide i guess i will just put some bigger pills in. lol
haha thanks for all the help, ill think im gonna go for it, and btw NJHK, your sig is sweet

Personally, for me it wasn't worth it.
I picked up my new 3800 S/C for $1,000. Doing all the labor myself, it's like picking up 125 h.p. for a grand (damn good deal.) After we're done doing all the internals we have lined up, along with all the bolt-ons, upgrades and nitrous, the motor is gonna be pushing 400 h.p. this season.
The 2200 does have potential (as does almost any motor) but you have to weigh the costs/gains.

Ahh how I would love to pic up one of those 3800's. I was at Advance Auto the other day and they said they can get the motor sc'ed and all for $1600. I don't see how that can be unless its a small S/C.
3800 sc 2, that ran in the 97-03 gtps only had an eaton m90, they only ran like 4-5 psi stock I think thats why a grand prix gt had 200hp and the supercharged gtp only had 240hp, but if you would mod these at all ( ie. intake, exhaust, pulley, or dhp pcm ) you could have a car with over 300hp just from boltons, damn nice motor and I'd love to put one in my sunfire....... Maybe someday
My dad's Regal GS I think is making close to 270. He modded it with a different pulley, headers, full dual exhaust, a few other things that I'm not sure of. Not bad for a "Grampa" car. If you want to get parts for the L67, there's a web site dedicated to that motor.
yes the 3800 sc is a great swap if you have the time and resources. and it was my first choice. but because my car is staying as my daily driver until i get my R33 GTR, I can't have it down for months at a time, which is why I'm building one of the meanest 2200 motors ever on a stand in the garage. You can build a pretty mean 2200 that will spank many cars on the street. I'll give you a few hints. Bored .040 over, everything heat tanked, balanced knife-edged polished lightened crank, forged rotating assembly, 9:1 compression, full roller valvetrain, custom hydraulic roller cam from Crane to match my powerband, a T3/T04e pushing 20 psi in high boost on race gas, some nitrous, and a $1100 pair of axles. Just takes money man.

Very true...a great motor to mofify.
Winter engine mods will consist of a Comp cam, roller rockers, push rods, springs, retainers, custom headers, my current full exhaust, port/polish done in house, injectors, fuel pump, coil packs, plugs, wires, etc. (probably missed a LOT), and a 50-shot for starters. Won't be modifying the supercharger boost at this point, though.

That's gonna be nuts dude. You'll be pushing WELL over 300 lbs torque. I mean @!#$, it's at 280 from the factory already. How you get traction I don't see it...

He could always bolt about 100lbs of lead to his front bumper!

i was figuring along the lines of axles, suspension and tires lol

Lol... Traction is definitely going to be our main enemy, and we've already faced that fact.
The up-side is that we're increasing the overall weight of the car with the full frame we're installing, and maybe that'll help a bit. The half-shafts are going to be custom made, and I'm thinking about the full Tein setup for suspension. If I choose a typical spring/damper setup, I'll have to weight 'til the frame and engine is in to see where she'll sit height-wise. The other trick I have up my sleeve is purchasing 2 more 18" wheels and installing drag slicks on them for when I want to "go out and play" in nice weather.
drag radials would be a great way to go with a nice Tein damper setup
