info on GM's3.4 (3400?) DOHC V6?

I read an article in a magazine that a friend has about GM's new 3.4 DOHC V6, and that it makes something like 240 HP out of the box. Does anyone know anything about this engine, what cars it comes in, and if it is compatible with any of the transmissions in our cars? I've searched around the net a bit and haven't found much info other than it being all aluminum, rumored to have DOD, 4 cams, and is more powerful than the L67 in the GTP. If one could get this engine and all the stuff it needs to make it work, it would be a more powerful, lighter engine than the L67. I'm not even sure if the engine is in production yet.

The only 3.4 DOHC that GM has was discountinued several years ago. As far as new engines I think perhaps you mean the 3.6 "high feature" which is used in things such as the LaCrosse CXS and the CTS. It has 240 hp and is DOHC. If you mean the 3.4 DOHC also known as the Twin Dual Cam, it made 210 hp in the manual version and an even 200 in the auto version. Look up 'Doublezed' he has swapped one of these into a 98 Cav convertible. There is a HUGE thread about it. As far as the 3.6 high feature, no one that I know of has swapped one as they are still very new. I am not sure what bolt pattern they have but I would guess it would be the same as the 2.2/2.8/3.1/3.4/3.8 which all use the same bolt pattern. Hope that helps.

3.6 - that sounds right. I'll look up that thread. It just seemed like an interesting motor and maybe something to look at. I'm probably going to buy this 2G RS I was looking at and maybe keep the 97 as a project car, and this engine might be kinda fun to try. Thanks for the help.

The 3.4 DOHC is a PITA to fit in a 2nd gen (there is one project I know of going on right now), and they have a larger engine compartment than 3rd gens. It might fit though.

Been there done that, takes a lot of custom fabrication to get it in there. Here is a pic of Brad's when we first dropped it in. Also the S/C 3800 (from the GTP's) has more power and way more aftermarket support than the 3.4
