Performance ??? What should i do?
Tuesday, December 27, 2005 10:07 PM
First of all I've got an 01 Cavalier

So far I have a Cold Air Intake, spark plug wires, good spark plugs, exhaust (Not Cat)

I've heard alot about motor mounts are they worth it?

Any other ideas you guys have just let me know.

It all depends on what you're looking for (how much you want to spend, what numbers you want to reach, etc.). If you're looking for simple bolt-ons then motor mounts are a good way to go. They help save the power that is lost in the driveline's shifting and playing around. Keep in mind that you will get minor shaking and vibrations at idle, if that's something you don't think you'll tolerate then do not purchase them. Check out mounts at www.carcustoms.net , there's free shipping.

Blown.

What he said.

I'll add that you shouldn't expect any type of HP/TQ gains...just expect a bit better response. These are inexpensive and for the money worth getting.

His profile says its a 2.2ohv. Anyway, get the mounts and finish the exhaust. That will be a nice start. The ohv isn't going to be very fast unless you go FI or N2O, so don't expect a lot of power from bolt ons.

I'm not really looking for that much power.

Just enough to leave those smug civic driving (excerpt deleted) in my dust

Which i can pretty much do already, i just want to make it a little worse.

Ok we all don't like Hondas...yea yea yea but you have to be realistic. Figure out how much REALISTIC horsepower you want. Don't come back saying "I want 400 HP" cause realistically, you probably won't spend as much money as it takes to make a 400 HP cavalier. When you can get a defenite answer and have a realistic way of meeting that goal, then go for it or ask us for help or advice to reach that point.

Other than that, I suggest not modifying your car untill you have an ultimate goal. It would be a waste to spend money on parts that you don't need for your goal.

Always the Genesis vs SNS, Sony PS vs Saturn, Master system vs NES.

Look,
Forget the mods and all that other crap.

Why do you wanna get mods done in the first place?
Who are you doing it for? You, bragging rights toward your friends, to impress some female, to fill up your registry with mods?

If you wanna whip on generic Hondas, Then youdon't really have to do much.
If you're trying to impress some chick, still don't really have to do 'much'.
If you're doing it for yourself, then research like you're doing and do you.

Figure all that out first then you'll be set.
