I'm thinking of purchasing the unorthodox pulley for my z24 and I'm wondering if I will be ok going with an under driving pulley or should I just go with a lightened. I do have a light audio system pushing about 500 watts. I don't want to over stress my charging system. Thanks for any opinions.
Underdrive the crank if you want a little bit more power. If you are concerned about the alternator not charging then keep the stock alt. pulley. Usually you'd only have a problem if you were at idle for a long period of time with the system cranked. If you are driving you'd be ok. Even at competitions they let you rev the car to kick up the voltage.
If it was me I'd underdrive both pulleys. And if you could bypass the AC compressor. Unfortunately we don't have a power steering or water pump pulley to underdrive but then again it may help since we don't have to turn two extra pullies. However it is drawing power off the cam for the PS pump and the timing chain turns the water pump.
