I am about to replace everything from my header to my muffler. I have already bought and have in my possession a Pacesetter 4-2-1 header (PSM-70-1275) with the downpipe and collector. I also bought and have in my possession a Magnaflow Cat (MPE-94035). I am about to purchase a Magnaflow muffler (MPE-14859). However I am stuck on what to use for the resonator. There is a Magnaflow Resonator (MPE-14415), but they also have one by Dynomax (WLK-24201). The biggest thing I noticed that was different besides the size was that the Magnaflow was SS and Dynomax was just steel. I am leaning heavily towards the Magnaflow only because it would make up 75% of my exhaust plus it's a little shorter and it's stainless steel. However it is rather expensive. Is there that big of a difference between the two? As far as sound? I would like a low humming sound not the chainsaw on heroin sound. I can't see performance be significant different they are straight pipes right? Then again I am probably wrong. Any suggestions?
stainless steel is the way to go to avoid rusting and replacing. however, the shorter the resonator, the raspier (honda-ish) sound you will get. any shorter than 18" and your car will sound like an elephant farting through a straw. performance-wise, a resonator will not largely affect power, it is just a matter of sound quality. my personal recommendation. . . dont cheap out the resonator. we all hear 100's of crappy exhausts every day, and it gets old doesn't it?
I believe the Dynomax is like 5 or 6 inches longer but far cheaper. I didn't want to cheap out and definately like you stated have a car that "will sound like an elephant farting through a straw". However what seems to be the better one is shorter. I double checked on Summit but all Magnaflows are 20" overall length with a 2 1/4 inlet-outlet. I just want a quieter deeper sounding exhaust.
^^^ Same here, go with the dynomax.

Dynomax,
Its cheaper, lighter, and works just as effectivly.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
so you guys arent worried about the dynomax rusting out? that is the only reason that im leaning more toward getting a stainless magnaflow, is because i live in NY and have to deal with the road salt. but if you guys say that its all good, then damn, might as well save some money!
Ill make a sig someday
I've been digging through old posts. I think I will go with the Dynomax. If anything I could always replace it if I am not happy. Then leaves me almost $50 to purchase something else. I appreciate the input guys.
lol elephant farting throught a straw hahaha thats the funniest thing I have heard this week haha.
