is it safe to only install the exhaust cam
Wednesday, February 01, 2006 7:54 PM
Hey everybody... I blew my head gasket this past week and i have replaced it and am just putting everything back together when I remebered that I have the exhaust cam for the secret cam swap lying around. I dont have the intake cam however. My question is - is it ok to only install the exhaust cam and leave the intake cam stock? Will the timming all be the same as stock?

Thanks For All Of Your Help

I don't know for sure, but if the cams dont throw codes normally, I can't see a problem with just one.

Sure, the secret intake cam really isn't all that different from the stock one.

well $200 goes to spotabee racing - I started her up - runsa nd idles nice there is a little bit of lifter noice but as far as I can tell its gone now. Had a little coolent leak from that coolant pipe that attaches to the head. So I am waiting for the silicone to dry before I take it for a spin. But so far everything seems to work...

well I took it for a rip this morning. First thing I noticed is how smooth the acceleration is.The exhaust just screams when I floor it now and although I think I lost some low end torque it feels really quick. Im just happy that it still runs as I have no mechanical experience as far as engines go. Oh and the head gasket seems to be sealed too . Yay.

Has anyone done a before and after chassis dyno test to verify hp/tq gains over stock so that others comtemplating the swap can know how much they're going to gain?

no dyno done - but i can testify that the gains were more than those i got from exhuast or tb or intake... so must have been a few hp in there. i defunately say its worth it.
