difference 95-97 and 98+ LN2 headers - searched

I tried to find the answer, maybe I didnt search for the right thing or the key words were wrong but I didn't find my answer. I now that there are differences between the pre 98 LN2 and the 98+ LN2 in head design, but I've heard that the exhaust headers are interchangeable. I was wanting to get this cleared up. In my search for a header I am finding that some say all 2.2 95-00, some say 95-97 or 98-00, etc. I thought I read a thread a while back about this but I couldn't find it, so if someone could help I'd appreciate it. I'm finding a ton of headers for the 98s, and looking comparing flanges, angles, etc, they look like they would fit.

The 2.2 in and the 2200 NON-Ecotec engines all have interchangeable headers.

Thanks, Random. I thought so but wasn't sure.

One more thing, do I need to do anything different for the EGR or will it work just the same?

well part of that is true

pacesetters ports are large enough to clear both port designs , as the 98-02 port is smaller than the 97-older , and in a slightly different location

also the 97 older have a flanged cat , so the extension will bolt up to the cat , some early 98 are like this from what ive heard

98-02 have the extension pipe welded to the cat , and require cutting and welding to attach the headers extension pipe

i dont have any experence with any of the other companies headers , but those are the main differences between the years

Well, here's where I'm at. I'm replacing the entire exhaust. It's all out of necessity at this point because the manifold is shot too. I'm planning on ordering a new flex pipe since no header seems to come with one and I haven't gotten engine mounts yet, and I already have a 2.25" Magnaflow cat, 2.25" resonator, and a 2.5" inlet muffler. I basically plan to do it like this: header, flex pipe, cat, resonator, rear section (custom bent), muffler. I know I'll need to adapt the different pipe sizes for the muffler to fit, no biggie. I'm going to install everything up to the resonator and take it to Car-X to have my buddy bend the rear pipe for me. But I'm looking on eBay for a header, and OBX, Weapon R, X Tune are all stainless steel. Pacesetter isn't so I'd like to stay away from it since everything else is stainless. Most are only lsited for '98 and up, there are other headers listed for '97, but the biggest thing I noticed is a lot of the '98 headers are substantially lower priced, so if they will fit I'd rather get one of those. I know most will say save up and buy a DC Sports or RK Sport or something but I'm not going to get into that argument.
