well I can tell you what I know shift lights need tach signals ...usually. and I have been trying to get a tach signal for about 3 weeks now to no avvial. you can try the white or orange wires going to your icm but those probably wont work with out the adapter. I think however they can be made for about 5 dollars.

I'm going to assume a shift light has a power(+, red), grnd (-, black), and signal (green wire).

Refer to Jcavi's post about a tach adapter in this forum... we discuss how to get a tach signal without buying a $75 tach adapter from autometer or MSD.

I installed mine on the 2200, and I'm assuming it would be the same because you need the tach adapter for that too. Because it works as a passive setup, the light will flash whenever you hit redline (there's a surge from your computer just before it cuts out the ignition which triggers the light) so you may not be able to adjust it ... but you don't really need to.. since the powercurve doesn't taper off until 5800 anyway, I just tapped into the orange wire with a white stripe on it.

peace out

well if you get a stewart warner adjustable tach you dont need an adapter. just set it to read for 1 cylinder and you'll get the right numbers. real easy in fact

why spend $50+ on a tach adapter (I believe thats the wrong one anyways) when you can make one for $5.... or give me $20 and I'll make you one.

I saw an adjustable tach on ebay which didn't use a signal wire at all. It just plugged into the cig lighter and that was it. They had a video of it up too. I don't know if it's legit or not, but it's worth a look. You would always hard wire it in.

This isn't that one I was thinking of, but it's similar.
