Can anybody tell me how they sound on our 4-bangers?

I'am interested in a 2.5 in. Ultra Flo, as mentioned in "Custom exhaust question" thread. I can't decide between the Flomaster and Dynomax.

Dynomaxx is better.Flow master is for v8s it sounds bad on 4 bangers. Dynomaxx have fiber glass in them alot smoother sound. I had a dynomaxx on my sunfire it sounded very good. I have fart can on my cavy and i am wishing i had a dynomaxx. A buncha people in my local j club really liked the dynomaxx sound!!! I think dynomaxx is the best choice for anybody really!!!!! So yea deff take my advice anbody who says flow master hasn't heard a dynomaxx on a j!!!

Hey cool new name Z24G ! Wonder where you came up with that. ( whisles and looks around like he doesn't know ) Your welcome !

^ ^ ^ Is absolutely correct ! Dynomax mufflers have matting inside of them so they get rid of the resonance that a Flow Master can't. Its that resonance thats horrible ! And horribly loud ! Go with the Dynomax ( its what I've got ) You'll be much happier. believe me man I had a 40 series Flow Master. It sounded awesome for the first 2 or 3 days then it began grateing on my nerves. After a week I couldn't stand it anymore and had it replaced with the Dynomax ones that are on my car now.

Agreed, I have the welded Ultra-Flo with a Thrush(Dynomax) Magnum Glasspack, PS header, high flow cat and full 2 1/4" piping and the sound is only slightly louder than the stock system and is deep and smooth under crusing and idle, with a deep, but not obnoxiously loud, growl under full throttle acceleration. Sound great without being too loud and no raspiness.

As I can see your parts are really near to my wishlist, but i will go with 2.5 instead of your 2.25 and my glasspack will be only 28 in. overall (23 in. case) instead of 35". Does that mean my exhaust will sound deeper and (a little) louder? And I've the 2.4L LD9 Z24 engine.

Do you have any sound files from your car? Can't find your car at the "Exhaust sound" thread.

Thanks.

Probly a little deeper due to the increase in pipe diameter. But nothing overly dramatic. It'll sound great man.

Yes, your's should be a little deeper, as Jacklope stated and a little louder with a slight amount of rasp.
Look into the longer muffler (#17289 25" OL, 20" case, 2.5"in/out , offset in/ cent out) to help keep the sound smother and a little quieter, to make up for the shorter glasspack.
You could also get one of the shorter 16.5" Ultra-Flo Bullit mufflers to fit some where, if its still too loud.

For me the flowmasters are just too heavy.

Some of them weigh as much or more than the spare tire.

They do sound nice, given the proper set up,

But are on the heavier side.

How about an eco, I was looking for a deep but not too much louder then stock sound...I will be using a 2.25" magnaflow peforated core resonator... Dynomax ultraflow?? The only way I will get anothjer aftermarket exhaust/muffler is if I get a non-annoying , non-RICEY exhaust note

I've got the DynoMax UltraFlow SS w/ RK header and no resonator
and I really like the sound, no popping not too loud and deep like a v6

and I'm sure it'll only sound better with a resonator

I say go for it!

What about Magnaflow? They are a great low resistance muffler... Nice and deep with no rasp that I can complain about...

Also the fact that a flowmaster is just as heavy as your spare tire doesn't mean alot... How heavy is the Ultra flow? I doubt there is much is any difference in weight due to all that glass packing material... I have a Magnaflow and it was probably 15-20 lbs... (GUESS not 100

well, I've ordered all parts from summit an 05/22/06 and the cat. was backorderd. now my order is complete and will be shipped on next monday. here's my final order:

- Pacesetter header
- 2.25 in. Magnaflow 94035 cat.
- 2.25 in. Thrush glasspack (20 in. case/25 in. orverall)
- 2.25 in. Ultraflo Welded muffler (14 in. case/19 in. overall)
- 2.25 in. slant-cut exhaust tip

I hope it sounds deep and is noticeable louder than stock. The stock exhaust has also a nice popping when getting off the gas and the engine goes lower than 1500 rpm or is switched off from idle. I LOVE IT and hopefully the new exhaust has that popping, too.
