Ask them if they use torque plates or not. Boring really isn't all that expensive, I was quoted $20/cyl when I last checked.

tq plates are used to put pressure on the block , similar to the head

so that when the motor gets bored out the roundness of the cylinders will be the same with the head on

also its best to get the pistons first , so they can bore match them , not all .020(example) pistons come out the exact same size

i haveta send the pistons i got back so i can get .040 overbore ones made (got stock size cuz i thought boring would be impossible to find around here and thought it would cost a butload but i guess not) so ill haveta wait atleast a month then im guessing if they make them on time?

10$ a cylinder round here, nothern alabama. but around my area of alabama it seems like everyone has a machine shop in their backyard so that might be a little cheaper than some places.

is boring .040 over going to be ok if i go turbo later? i just got a spare block to work on yesterday and the walls are pretty damn thin. i know .040 is like foling a piece of paper like 4 times over if that but that counts alot when they are then ass walls. will it be ok or should i do less? what is everyone else runnin?

if its a stock bore engine (never been bored before) than .040" would be fine, however when in doubt about wall thickness's spend some cash and get the block sonic checked....

the 2.4L i'm planning is bored .1" over with custom pistons, custom rods for those pistons (longer rods to move the piston pin up alittle more to make a lighter more stable piston) this is a N/A build, no nitrous as on cyl walls like this boost or nitrous can cause them to crack due to extreme pressures but in an N/A application its more than enough wall thickness. (on this particular block) going to run 14.5: compression and my shift points will be in the 8500rpm range.
