HO mani w/ stock TB?

I just found a HO intake manifold from a '92 Pontiac Grand Am (2.3L Quad 4 LGO) at a local junkyard and was wondering if I got this manifold could I still use the stock TB? I have a '97 Z. Would you guys advise using the stock TB or getting a new/used one thats wider diameter? Also is $50.00 a good price for a HO mani thats in fairly decent condition?

yes you can use the stock t/b but a bigger one would help with flow or you could just use a stock ho t/b thats 56mm and stock it 52mm but yes it will work

when you swap that do you need a new gasket? plus i was going to use the adapter plate so do i need one? and which hoses go where?

I've read a bunch of the HO topics but I've never seen this mentioned. Can you still run your Cruise with the stock cables once the HO intake manifold swap is done? or do you need to get the cables and controller from a 2.3 HO?

as long as you are using a matching TB and bracket your cruise will be fine the manifold wont affect it. You just wont have the added gain of the larger TB unless you buy a larger 2.4 TB.

If you use the 2.4L TB, you have the drill the holes out that mount it to the 2.3L manifold. If you look at the bolts that hold the 2.3L TB onto the 2.3L manifold, they are larger than the holes in the 2.4L TB. It's as simple as drilling them a bit larger.

I am using my stock 2.4L TB on the 2.3L manifold. It works just fine. For some reason, I had idling problems when I used the 2.3L TB. The only drawback in using the 2.4L TB is that it isn't pulling as much air in as it could.

Yes, your cruise will work fine, but there are some snags. If you use the 2.4L TB, there will be some fitment issues in running the cruise cable to the TB. It will be just to the left of the battery and the cruise cable will hit the radiator hose. It would take a bit to work it around the hose. If you use the 2.3L TB, you will have to modify the throttle cable bracket because the placement of the cruise cable is different on the 2.3L compared to the 2.4L.

sorry i read the link al the way through is it really worth all the work? i hated or dreaded the part about removing the exhaust manifold to change the @!#$ for the egr. any benifits to not having an egr?
and is this h.o manifold good for boost aplications?
thanks i eed to know before i rip the car apart.

no removing the exhaust manifold just get the egr block off plate its super simple and its worth the work to put this ho manifold on

Yes, you can get the plate from GM. Just order a '99 EGR blockoff plate.

I just finally completed my HO manifold install. I used a stock TB bored to fiftysix mm. I had them take the throttle plate from a 2.3 tb. As mentioned you have to drill out the TB. It's simple if you have a drill press. Both my cruise and my throttle cable fit fine, the rad hose is in the way, but I tied it back a bit, and it clears, if just barely.

One thing I'm tearing my hair out over is a vac leak that I can't seem to get rid of. I made a gasket for the manifold to head, and one for TB to manifold. I've checked and rechecked everything, and even siliconed the TB with black gasket sealant. Every bolt is tight as possible, all vacuum ports are sealed/used, and it's still there. Frustrating as hell...

mattf make sure you have your ground coming of the battery tightend i thought i had a leak but once i tighted that it was fine

so do you have a new check engine light now? and it is as easy to change a computer form 98 to 99? easy as plug and play? so i dont have look at the light on the dash?
nice job with the install man i cant wait to do mine.
wait one more question what about the pcv stuff that get blocked?

I don't know the full details of switching to a '99 computer. I don't think it will be plug and play though. Some of the differences of that year make me think that, like the digital cluster. I could be wrong though.

Paul, I remember tightening the ground, but thanks. I am going to be sourcing the leak this week, I just haven't taken the time to do it yet. Just gotta break out the WD40 and figure out where it's coming from...

i was checking out my manifold and good its an ho, thanks to my "Parts Guy" theres seems to be a hose ripped of the belly of my manifold? and there a piece of rubber still stuck in there? does an vacumm hose just gets pushed in there? i talking about the port right beside the part number. thanks if you can help me out.
