ok what i want to do is get a 2.3 block alone then get a way to bypass the cam sensor code for the odb2. I may have to get the 2.4 head and use the cams from the LO i want and use the throttle body and intake manifold and the cams and use high impedence 199cc injectors and get new head gasket (LO is still roughly 160hp i'd get HO/w41 but its rare at junk yards) is it too much trouble just to bypass the cam sensor for ODB2? I can get full elecrical from the 2.4L and i'm also going to use a GETRAG gear box.
would i get any better gains from the 2.4L head, or could i just change the cam cover to a 2.4 cam cover?
and about the mounting brackets. the 2.3 quad ohc's have almost the same upper mount for the engine as my 2200. but the quad4 LO in a oldsmobile cutlass(lets say) only has a lower bracket that is bolted on the frame... any suggestions?

first thing first, there was a few differnet 2.3. The W41, Ho, Lo, 95 and the SOHC.
Witch one are you talking about? they are all OHC. You can't bypass the cam sensor just by changing the block and trying to **** around with the cams. You would need to change the Ecm, use a 95 intake cam or have your intake cam modify with a lobe and an hex at the end.
What you have to understand is that the Lo had 160hp, the Ho had 180hp and the W41 had 190hp(in 1991 and 92) but it was all in the cams and the ecm. an Ho is a Lo with Ho manifold and Ho cams. The W41 is a Lo with the Ho manifold and W41 cams. The Lo had 9.5:1 compression and the Ho/W41 had 10:1.
So what I want you to understnad is that you can get the block you want (Lo, Ho, W41) and you will still have 160hp if you don't use the cams.
Also, STAY AWAY FROM THE SOHC AND 95 ENGINE. The 95 had balanced shaft witch is like the 2.4 and the Sohc just plain s*** to the point that it's not even a paper weight.
You can use the 086 head(the only one you want to use with the 2.3) with the 2.4 cam housing. Do not use the 2.4 head on the 2.3 block. You'll end up with around 8:1 compression and no airflow witch will be pointless since you want more power, not less.
199cc? Did you know the Lo had 27lbs injectors and the Ho had 32lbs injectors? the 199cc injectors are good for the 2200 but not the 2.3.
The mounts were different on the quad you looked at because from 87-91 they had a front mount. In 92-95, they had the same mount as the 2.4. You can use the 92+ mount on a 91- engine tough.
If you really want to do all that, you're in for a job. Search and read alot. Learn how to build an engine cause you seem to lack some knowledge on how it works. We've all been there before. It's just that it's a big project, nothing easy.

Thanks for all the info! I'll stay away from the 2.3quad SOHC and 2.4 blocks. It may be very hard to get my hands on a HO or W41 from the wreckers. I just didn't know that the 95+ engine block, had balance shaft(s) that weigh down the crank.
i'll just need the 2.4L cam housing.
I dont have exp. with any Over Head Cam engines so i dont know much about building it.
I didn't know the LO had 280cc injectors, so i guess its not the same types as the 2.4?
I was just interested about the sohc block but you stated it also has balance shafts. because a ton of them are at the wreckers and getting a LO DOHC is 1/80 chance.
so i can still use a getrag standard trans and its ok with a 2000+ setup? i wanted to have 2.4L injectors in the 2.3 i guess its not possilbe to begin with?
the injectors are not big enough. The SOHC don't have balance shaft but they plain s***. That's why they are at the wrecker.

My thread question was "Is it worth getting a 2.3quad OHC, Block?" it's just the block i want to get. no head or anything. I was thinking it should be the same. i know SOHC sucks but is the block itself ,crappy?
