LD9 Crate Motors

I have been looking for a crate motor or just a cheap motor to build.... Anyways I came across this..clicky112462258...and this...clicky 2 12465498.

Why would anyone by the 99-02 if the 96-99 cost over a grand less? Any with only slit modification would work the same?

Someone tell me wtf is the big difference, please!

Don't know. I want to know why are you looking for a crate motor to build?? Why not a bad motor and build, or a junkyard motor?

Not looking directly for a crate motor, just looking for motors in general when came across this.

And I agree with a junkyard motor than rebuild.

biggest difference according to gm is that the knock sensor went from a one wire to a 2 wire and the fuel rail and injectors are a different plug making the wiring harness useless if you get the wrong engine, the two wire harness was a huge improvement and controls your timing alot better. If you want a core engine for cheap that usually the block is just bad i can get you one for about $250 but I cant say for sure what was wrong with it considering its a core. If you want something in good condition your looking at $850. stay away from the 00-02 if you have a 96-99 you will end up dealing with alot of bs man.

Yes knock sensor being different is correct. Injectors are not really part of the motor. When looking to put a motor in a car, regardless of year, year of the motor does not matter so much (speaking in regards to a LD9). You would use the injectors that came with the car the motor is going in. The only real thing to worry about is the knock sensor. I believe when buying a crate motor injectors are not included, usually just the basic motor.
I also have a block 96-97 with pistons, crank and oil pan that I would let go for about $75, plus shipping. Not sure what is wrong with it. Also have a 97 complete motor with 72k on it, spun a rod bearing, has never been opened, except a water pump, would want a little more on it.

99-02 engines don't have the waterpump issues so there must be more different than just the knock sensor.

There's also no EGR on the new ones, right? Among other things.

Yes no EGR is another thing changed, among others. The water pump issues was supposely fix in 98. I have still heard of 2000 plus cars needing water pumps. To me a water pump is something you should expect to replace if you have the car for more than 50k.
