what should a stock ecotec be at?
auto should be 600 rpm
manual 800 rpm.
or maybe its the other way around.

No.
And why would you want to change what you idle at?

wow, my 97 gt 5 speed idles at 1025.
800 really? I coulda swore mine was a bit higher... I'll double check tomorrow
I know on my stock 2200 Tb and my 2.3L TB there is a idle set screw that the swing arm rest against when the plate is closed, it;s what keep the TB from completely closing, hence letting the air in at idle. If adjusted out, it would choke the car more, lowering the idle. Screwed in, idle goes up.
Failure is not failure if you learn from it
couldn't you "tighten" your throttle cable a little more ( i havent really checked down by the throttle cable on my 03 too much so this might not be possible) realease it, tighten the slack then retighten it so it would be holding the butterfly open a little more than stock idle...?
you'd probably burn more gas sitting in traffic that way. or screw up the idle all together
basically, exactly what 02turbo said.....
i dont see a reason to do this, but its your car.
my auto is at 600rpm. did it always idle that high at 1025 Matt?
there's a reason why the auto idle at 600rpm. The auto transmission is a big pump with clutches. If your engine idle too high, say goodbye to the transmission after a while. The engine mount will suffer too.
Also, adjusting the screw or the cable won't do s***. The idle is electronicly control by the ecm that adjsut the IAC to get the right idle. If you ever get to make the idle higher, you'll get some weird reaction of your engine comming out of idle and going back to idle since the IAC can't adjust for the Ecm setting and you'll throw a code for high idle.
