2.3 intake manifold
Tuesday, April 04, 2006 8:05 AM
found one in a junkyard in a convertable cavalier. looked to be around a 1995 or so. vin is 1G1JF32DOSB100295. is this the H.O? also heard something about staying away from the 95 year. whats up with it?

If it's out of a 1995 Cavalier than it's an L.O., not an H.O.

That write up has a link to another thread i made about all the cars that ever had a 2.3L you will be able to figure out what cars to look for by looking at the info.

8th digit should be a D for the LO.

probally not. the head cover on the cams just said 2.3 high output quad 4 or something. any way to tell the difference in the ho and lo intake manifolds? i know the vin you can tell for the cams. but is it the same 'law" so to speak for the manifold?

if it said high output on the IDI cover, then it should be an HO manifold...

no, even if the car has the HO IDI cover, some ricer could have put that on his LO motor. To find the HO motors the 8th digit in the vin will be and "A" instead of a "D"

Alright I was thinking about doing this swap as well but I know some one who is getting rid of an LO manifold that I can pick up for like 40 bucks. What is the difference between the manifolds and how much difference in power gains are there between the two. Sorry I don't mean to thread jack or anything.

OMG you guys..jeez..first most of you are right..the 95 didnt come with an HO quad in ANY car....BUT...it could have been swapped in there...Oorrrr..it could just be the cover...so..to tell the differnce simply look under the hood and see if the power steering pump is cam driven or belt driven..if it has a belt then it IS an HO engine...cam driven pump means its the stock motor with a new cover on it......
but dont foget you can still use the TB AND the intake cam if its an LO

Even if it has the old style steering pump, it could be an LD2. Someone could have easyly swapped in that just like someone could swap in the LGO.

Don't let the punks get to you. If they can't say anything helpful its because they probably
have VERY LITTLE IF ANY MECHANICAL SKILLS . Talking crap is just their way of hiding that
fact. They figure the more crap they say the less likley anyone will know how dumb they are.
