Modifying a 2.4 intake
Monday, April 03, 2006 1:04 PM
Is it possible to modify a 2.4 short ram intake to fit with the HO manifold swap? I don't want to buy new pipes and was wondering if I could cut the AEM short ram intake I have now to fit (maybe somewhere after the first bend).

yes you can but I wouldnt do it to an AEM intake, sell it then use the money to buy a cheap ebay intake, unless you dont care about the AEM part. I cut my ebay intake but, I would feel bad if it was an AEM and I had spent that much money on it just to cut it.

^^ true that, it is polished too, maybe I'll put it in the classified section and just make my own intake. Do places like Autozone and Advance Auto Parts have piping and rubber elbows for custom intakes?

i was just at autzone and saw some stuff in a random isle for building your own intakes. hoses, silicone clamps, filters crap like that, so im sure you could do something with all that. oh look by the crappy bolt on exhaust tips. i think thats where i saw them

So your going to spend even more money on your intake? I would just cut it, since your probably not going to get what you paid for out of it, and probably break even(or spend more) to make the new one. Just my $.02.
However, if you sell it for a decent price, you might be able to make a full CAI, which would net you a few more horses!

Good point, however from what I hear this not much difference between the CAI and WAI when it comes to performance on our cars.

D-Lux, I'll sell you a 2.4L eBay special, the kind that hooks up to the end of the black box for cheap. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks bone stock z for the offer but I think I'm going to buy the pieces and put them together for a custom cold air intake. If it doesn't work out I'll let you know.

It's actually touch up spray paint made specifically for rims that I got from a local Autozone. I think it's only supposed to be used for touching up nicks and scratches but I sprayed the entire rim. I thought it was going to be cheap and flake off but it's been on there for about a year now with no problems. I did two coats of the gunmetal touch up paint and one clear coat. Looks pretty good and was fairly inexpensive.
