ok..for all of you that have a quad equiped Jbody you know that there has never been any kind of header option for us,all we could do was port the stock manifold(which will only do so much). If you have looked into the matter you know that TRS makes a GREAT header for our engine but will not fit our car. Well with lots of persistance ive finally come across a shop that is willing to make a header to fit the quad engine, be available to however wants one, and still remain affordable... this header is being designed mostly from scratch but will turn out mostly like the famous TRS header pictured below....
It will most likely have 1 3/4" runners with a 3" collector just like the one above..but we may change the routing a bit..if we cant fit the runners thru the small downpipe opening then we might go down and under the subrame..kind of like the exhaust on a 2.2 ...i need to know what you guys think about that direction of piping..
this is going to be done within the next 30 days...im going to dyno my car this coming weekend the way it is,then after the header install ill take it right back..so ill have plenty of pics AND dyno charts for you..
and if any 2.4 twin cam guys are interested in a nice header like this i BELIEVE all you will need to make it fit is a differnt flange to fit your head(unless im mistaken)
i dont want anyone to think im trying to SELL these because im not! im simply trying to get the word out that we finally have a better option for our exhaust! and any advice on making it is welcome! all further info i get as it is fabed up i will put in under this thread so keep an eye out!

thats what rsm has listed on their site...and that is Not a header...and that will do more harm than good on a HO quad ...the best upgrade for an LO engine is a HO manifold...but for us HO guys were outta luck..no one makes one that will fit the quad head and still maneuver thru the jbody engine bay properly..

sorry did not see that u had a HO.and its under header for HO and LO motors.so why will it do more harm then good?so your telling me i sould not put that on my LO or HO when i swap it?

no..stay away from that "header" ..at this time the best exhaust option for ANY quad engine is the HO exhaust manifold( ported if you prefer) ...why do more harm? look at the ports...the runners on that "header" are smaller than the runners on the stock HO exhaust manifold...do you think that helps or hurts??

if you go RSM, you may just want to go ahead and shoot yourself in the foot anyway...
ok but now i have a LO.will the header your having made work on my LO ?if not where can i get a HO manifold.
all LOs and HOs have the same bolt pattern..so yes the upcoming header WILL fit your LO,but is most beneficial for HOs..if you decide you dont want to pay for the new header you can always find an old HO exhaust manifold in the junk yard for pretty cheap
no junkyard near me in md or pa has any thing with a HO in it. i have searched i go there a lot and look.i was going to pay $500 for one so i guess i wouhld spend the money and i will be doing a HO swap when i find a good motor.so thet me know how much and good it works.
like urweak said, i tought that TRS was working on one. just needed someone to drive there for a day to take measurement!!!!
now if TRS doesn't come with one soon, i'll defenitly take one of these sctott!
I'm doing the engine next week and only thing that sucks is i'll have to get the stock HO mani in and get new piping weld on, then a month later change all that for the header..... still worth it tho.

I live REAL close to TRS, I've even volunteered and given some measurements. If he calls and asks me to stop by, I'll drive there this weekend. I'm in on this if the price is decent.
I'm also going to make some news. I'm in the R&D stages right now of making a GM style S/C manifold for the Quad. you will be able to select the manifold to match your S/C and can retain your A/C and not have to relocate your ALT.

Yes the N and 2nd J's work Speedvisioncavalier on Quad4forums has one of the first TRS headers, made +25hp to the wheels, with just the header.
the RSM would be like putting a restricter plate on your exhaust. you need a true header for the Quad.

no problem man .. and the only reason price is sketchy right now is because i have to buy the flanges seperate for each header..and right now they are gonna run me $75 each just for the flanges..and as for price im REALLY trying to keep them cheaper than the trs header..but again price is gonna depend on how many guys want one !! so im trying to get as many as possible..and in case you guys missed it before i dont see why this header wont work for 2.4 guys..all they will need is their local exhaust shop to change the flange and weld it up.....but i got an appoitment at the dyno in a week..gonna make 3 runs..then the car should go in for fab and install...then il have to make another dyno appointment..after that well talk price
Scott, I'll check at work to see how much it would be for a couple flanges. although prototypes are kinda on the pricey side since we're an automotive supplier.
if you could get them for less then 75 that would be great..even if i have to buy in bulk..i mean the ones im looking at ar steel,plasma cut and all that good stuff but i hate tacking on more money to a project
the ones from my work would all be machined, using CNC milling machines. I'll talk to the president next week if he's in the country LOL
hmmm, well stick with the place you got, $75 would be cheap compared to what they would charge at my work. put it this way. they want $1k to do the prototyping and drafting, even if you got a print already. then comes a contract. I told him nevermind then.
