Use the 2.3 or 2.4 T/B?
Sunday, April 16, 2006 12:47 PM
I am going to do a HO mani swap soon on my 01 Z. I know both T/B's work but are there any advantages to either? I would like to keep my stock sensors so i am leaning toward the 2.4 T/B. I am also thinking about dificulty of install b/c this is the hardest thing by far i am going to attempt to do. I have read two write ups on this and both just say you can use both T/B's not which one is easier or better. Thanks for the inmput guys.

2.4 may be easier, but the 2.3 is much better, its 4mm bigger.

How hard/worth it is getting a 2.4's bored to a 56mm? Is there a benefit to having the 2.3 over a bored 2.4?

I'll provide what facts i know to try and help....
what i plan on doing is taking my 2.4 TB (52mm) and having it bored out to 56mm which is the size of the 2.3 TB. to do this you take it to a qualified machine shop and tell them to bore it out to 56. THEn you can either have the shop make a butterfly(throttle plate) to fit or just use one out of the 2.3 TB if you have one laying around. It'll go right in.

The only thing that im not totally sure about is. the other dimensions of the TB. you know, such as 60-56-58 or however it tapers. just find the complete numbers of the 2.3 TB and get it bored to that and you'll be fine.
Or you could prob just tell the shop to keep everything proportional to how it's being bored out and they should know what to do about it. do all that, bolt it right on, and have fun with your new mod

I really want to do this mod but damn it sounds hard as hell to get it all to work properly. And expensive as well...

My car has two speeds, fast and faster.

Ok what about getting a performance T/B while i do the swap. I should get a T/B that fits the 2.3 right? And if i use the 2.3 (either stock or bigger) do i use 2.3 sensors or use the 2.4 ones? Or mix and match? Thanks for the info.

just put the 2.3l throttle body on way cheaper and just as easy as boring your stock on you simply put it on and plug your 2.4 harness into the 2.3 sensors. thats it its very easy

Oh, so all the plugs match up and the sensors work with my ECU? I wasn't going to bore it out. Last question, i have heard talk about needing a bracket for the T/B so the cables work right. What is it and where do i get that? Thanks for the info.

why do we lose our cruise control if we swap TB??

i think it is because some of the older cars the T/B's come off of don't have CC so the T/B doesn't have that part on it. Not sure though. Anyone want to comment on what bracket the NY-jbodies write up mentions for the T/B? I think i got everything down but this last thing. Thanks
