97 sunfire 2.4L - 01 cavalier 2200 eng+trans swap?
Friday, April 21, 2006 7:14 PM
Hi, I have a 97 sunfire gt (2.4L) and a 01 cavalier (2200, base model), both with 5 speed manual trans. I want to put everything from the sunfire, into the cavalier. Will the motor and transmission mount in the same place, if not, will the mounts from the sunfire fit in the cavalier? Also...would it be better/easier just to swap all the wiring, fuse panel, computers... from the sunfire? Because I want to have the A/C, power windows, power mirrors, engine, and whatever is better from the sunfire, put in the cavalier.
Any suggestions or help I can get, would be great, thanks.

You would have to change the mounts on the tranny, you will need to swap everything, all wiring, because the 2k+ uses a BCM, the 99- does not.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!

If you want a 2.4L in the Cavalier..... it would be MUCH easier if you did some hunting at the wrecking yard.... get yourself a getrag F23 trans from a 2.4L engine... out of a 00-02 car. Take the engine out of your Sunfire.... mate it to this trans.... then stuff it into the Cavalier. Find a 00-02 blown engine, and grab the injectors, exhaust manifold w/ two wire O2 sensor, etc... remove the EGR stuff from your motor.... tap the block for the bolt for the knock sensor... and you'll need the 00-02 2.4L 5 speed wiring harness.

Or... just find a 00-02 2.4L 5 speed engine AND trans at the wrecker... with harness... and swap it. Then you don't have to worry about changing parts on the engine itself.
